I have to disagree with you on Carroll's call last night, but I have a VERY good reason and I will explain...
There is 2:31 approx left on the clock - if you kick a field goal, you are up by exactly 16pts - that is 2 TDs w/ two 2pt conversions against Aaron Rodgers after a successful onside kick, or fumble by Seattle. However unlikely, the possibility is STILL there...
Now, if you go for a TD and FAIL on 4th, you are still up by 13pts - again, 2 TDs would be needed for the Packers...
Alternatively, if you go for a TD and SUCCEED, that is the final nail in the coffin and it would be physically impossible for the Packers to make up 20pts with 2.5min to play.
I know if at some point in my career, if I took for granted option 1 above (or some derivative thereof in a similar end-of-game scenario), and was 'touchy-feely' in an extremely unprobable scenario, and it came back to bite me and the other team won, I would be so excruciatingly LIVID, that I would swear to myself I would NEVER do it again - "to HELL with the other teams emotions, we are going for the GUARANTEED win 100% of the time EVERY TIME!"
So strictly from a coaching standpoint last night, I fully agree with Carroll's decision... -v
