ok...I place 99% of my bets through Betfair instead of a normal Bookmaker / Sportsbook
This goes for NFL / Soccer all sports but I am just using a soccer game here as an example
so generally i am gonna get 2-10% better return on picks and the prices i post with my picks here are taken from Betfair. But my question is, is it fair to post Betfair prices when most of you guys place with traditional sportsbooks -
e.g. FC Koln V Mainz tonight
I have picked OVER 2.5 goals and my price was actually 1.89 which is the same as -112.36, but TonydaGuru has picked the game also at -125, my normal book Bet 365 has it at -120...question is is it fair to make picks and post them at exchange prices when most people will be posting at tradtional sportsbook odds??
I know we are in no competitions but at the same time my unit returns would be slightly lower if i was postin prices from my regular sportsbook?...
What you guys think??
I think it is fair as if they really want to follow u then they would make an account with betfair and get the same lines as u.
Conor does betfair allow people to join who live in the U.S.? I thought exhanges normally don't allow U.S. bettors....
ya ur right i read that recently..pity though for you guys :)
Yes it is :) thanks for responding
I had a look at some of your sportsbooks thought the odds are still pretty good compared to some normal sportsbooks over here
Conor how does Betfair work i looked in to it a while back but didnt really understand it
Celticbhoy, you from Ireland aswell? Scotland?...well its like a bookmaker but you can bet for (BACK) a selection or against it (LAY)..e.g. when you look at a game and the blue price on the left is the best price to back that's available and the pink side is the best price that you can lay at - for example Saints @ 49ers market is pictured below, now as it shows only 6,500 has been bet on the market so far so it is not very solid Closer to the game expect the back and lay sides to come loser together, SF would probably be 2.74 (+174) to back and 2.76(+176) to lay
- Thers is alor more to it than that, one advantage is though that once the game starts this market will turn in running so if for example you backed 49ers and they were 3 touchdowns up their price would collapse so if you had backed them at 2.76, they may be available to lay at 1.2 which you could do for a guaranteed profit instead of letting the game ride incase you thought the Saints were coming back
- Essentially you are betting against other people i.e. if you are on the backing side they are the people making the money available to lay so there is no overround / vig, Betfair make their money by charging 3% on all winnings (profit only, you are'nt charged on every bet you make only on the winnings you make from the bet)
I've probably confused you even more now but hit me up tomorrow if you dont understand or want to ask anything,
i actually should have just posted you this link lol, some good information on first glance

Are these your picks? Then you should list exactly what you get it at. When I post picks I post the reduced juice if I'm betting at 5dimes, or with the free half point if I'm at Betislands. If you want to eventually be a pro here, then maybe you should consider a more level playing field
You want a handicapping tip? Spend as much time getting a good number as you do researching games. Depositing/withdrawing/depositing/withdrawing is a bitch, but I guarantee you will lose less, or win more. I can't guarantee that for any other piece of advice
