  • Mr. Alexander, I am coming to you because from what I've seen you have some connections with the people at sportsbook.com. My friend who is a very recreational bettor put 15 dollars on Brandt Snedeker to win this week's golf tourny at 100-1 over a week ago. Today, after other sites had adjusted they sent him a letter saying the line was "incorrect" Obviously my friend is extremely upset by this. If they had made an incorrect line, one would think they would fix it before a weeks time. In addition, this is only a 15 dollar bet, nothing that will break the bank. Is there anything you can do to help him out in this situation?

  • Mr. Alexander?  Michael, I don't even know who that is :)

Typically with cases like this, books don't budge.  Example: 5Dimes posted a Phillies line mid-to-late season last year that had them at something like 75-1 to win the NL, folks bet into it, and then 5Dimes simply took the position that it was an obvious error, and refunded the bets without much patience for debate.  (I know your friend won't want to hear this, but the better tact is to let the book know of the error in cases such as these.  You're much more likely to get a perk from them that way)

Obviously, Brandt Snedeker wouldn't be anything close to 100-1 in any golf tournament so I'm guessing we'll meet the same fate w this.  And even if, in fact, they had it up for a full week as you say, they won't punish their own admittedly gross oversight by capitulating on the wager.

All that said, I'd be happy to run it up the flag pole, if you will, and pass along the response.  Just making sure you or your friend don't get your hopes up.  But I'll let them know.  Can't hurt.

  • I understand its a long shot. However just to support my case he is currently 100-1 to win the masters (on sportsbook.com) with a field very similar to this one

I don't think my friend looked at it as an obvious error either btw. He actually texted me and was like "don't know why snedeker has such awesome odds but I had to throw 15 on it" I didn't even think twice about it. Not as if they are offering Luke Donald at 50-1 here lol

  • Gill's right with this.  There's probably a greater chance of Rick Perry running on a legalized gambling platform.  What's weird though is that usually it's a typo for bad lines.  Like he should have been 10/1 and they put 100/1.  But Sneds sure as shit should not be 10/1.  Sportsbook is a joke and the only reason people put up with them is they bend over backwards to offer you a million ways to beat them.

You want a handicapping tip?  Spend as much time getting a good number as you do researching games. Depositing/withdrawing/depositing/withdrawing is a bitch, but I guarantee you will lose less, or win more.  I can't guarantee that for any other piece of advice

  • True, I guess my only defense is they have him at 100-1 to win the masters as well. So is that line an error as well? Either way just trying to help out a friend and it probably wont even matter because what are the odds he really wins?

  • True, but what if he does win?  This is a smaller field, but the Masters is also a small field.  I have to believe if they considered this a mistake, they'd consider that one a mistake as well

  • "mistake" seems like an easy word to hide behind for a sportsbook.

  • From Michael Perry at Sportsbook.com:

"This is a case of input error. It doesn't matter the size of the bet. All

bets were refunded b/c of this error.

100/1 masters bet that exists for 2012 masters is fine."

Sorry it's not the outcome you had hoped for.

  • no problem, I was just trying to look cool for my friend haha

  • I am aware that this has nothing to do with this thread, but It's to Gill Alexander.  You had some killer coverage on CFB last year with Mike Hook, are you going to cover that in your podcasts this year at all?  I've heard some content here and there, but You guys were awesome last year with it.
