Pool, I respect your knowledge on this conference + i dont want to rub u the wrong way by what u might consider a dumb question but if EKU beat TENN ST at TENN ST by 16 would it not have to do with the match ups?,, I know they shot an unbelievable 64% from the floor and beyond the arc but could some of that b because maybe EKU matches up well with them? Seems like losing by 16 on your home floor is alot of points..I know u know this conf. like the back of your hand ..When u find time please give brief answer..Im not trying to b a wise ass..thanks vegas bruce
Saturday is a busy day so I'll try and give you a short answer. It was one of those games when one team was hot the whole game and the other team had cold streaks. There was one 6 minute span in the first half where EKU went on a 27-5 run. EKU shot 72.0% from the field in the first half and connected on 7-of-12 attempts from beyond the three-point arc in the opening 20 minutes. TSU made some runs but couldn't overcome the hole they had dug themselves.
The top three teams in this league are TTU, TSU, and Belmont. TSU is more athletic and longer than EKU. They lead the OVC in defensive efficiency. In the second half of that game TSU's top scorer, Keron Deshields, and another starter, Wayne Martin, got into an argument. It got bad enough that the coach benched them both for the next game against Morehead which they won anyway. He reinstated them the last game against a very good TTU team and they won by 30. Message received. This is a shooters league and all the top teams have players that can get hot on any given night. It just so happens that EKU had several of them get hot at the same time. I know one thing. For EKU to win they will have to have another night like that first one shooting the ball. If you have doubts don't bet it but I love the match up.
