1) Take at least one 12 seed to beat a 5 seed.
This has happened every year but two since 1989.
2) Blindly advance all 1 seeds to round 2.
A 16 seed has never won in march madness.
3) The 15 seeds will lose to the 2's.
Only four times have a 15 upset a 2.
4) Pick a double digit seed to advance to the sweet 16.
This has happened 23 times since 1985.
5) Avoid double digit seeds in elite 8.
Only three teams have done this in recent history.
6) At least one 1 seed will make the final 4.
This has happened all but two years.
7) Someone other than a 1 seed will make the final 4.
Only in 2008 did all 1 seeds fill the final 4.
8) Past winners, win again.
10 of the past 15 champs have cut down the nets before.
9) Ranked 1 for a reason.
The 1 seeds have won nearly 65% of the time in march.
10) 9 seeds are better than 8 seeds.
the 9 seed has won 54% of these match ups.
11) 5's struggle more than 6's.
69% of 6 seeds advance to round 2, just 66% of 5's advance.
12) Pick the home team.
4 of the 7 teams who made the final 4 in thier home state, Won.
13) The favorites dont always win.
Last year was the 1st time ever the 1, 2 & 3 seeds made the sweet 16.
14) the 1's dont often meet.
Only 6 times since 1982 have two 1 seeds played in the final game.
15) The number 1 doesnt win.
Since 1982, only 9 teams ranked #1 in any poll went on to win.
16) Dont figure out every bracket.
There are a shade over 9.2 quintillion possibilities.
17) Teams dont go back to back.
Only twice since '85 have teams won back to back years.
18) No more than two 1 seeds.
On average, just two 1 seeds make the final 4 each year.
19) Conf. Tournies Matter Most.
No team who lost round 1 of their conf tourney won march madness.
20) Conf. Tournies don't Much matter.
Only 25% of march mandess winners won their conf tourney.
21) Have Fun.
In the end, these are only trends from the past, have fun predicting the future!
