  • Yesterday's Plays

South Florida got the day off to a good start with a 9-point victory over DePaul, earning their first win ever in the Big East tournament. Montana then completed the sweep by taking care of business against Northern Colorado. That's 4-1 in the last 5 plays, and I've found a game I love for today.

    Today's Play

    1* Play on Stephen F. Austin(-2.5)

The Lumberjacks open the Southland conference tournament against the Mavericks of Texas-Arlington. Stephen F. Austin is 21-8 on the season, 11-5 in the conference. UT-Arlington is 16-13, 8-8 in the conference. These teams met on January 20th, where Stephen F. Austin won 72-65 at home.

This game is a complete contrast of styles. Stephen F. Austin is 338th out of 347 Division 1 teams in pace. They really like to slow it out and grind it out. On the other hand, UT-Arlington is 22nd out of those 347. They really like to run and gun, pushing the pace at every opportunity. UT-Arlington particulary struggles when the game is slowed down. They are 16-2 when scoring 70 points or more. And they are 0-11 when scoring under 70 points. This is real bad news for the Mavericks in this one, the Lumberjacks have only allowed 70 points or more in 4 of their 29 games.

UT-Arlington does do one thing exceptionally well on defense, they defend the 3-point line very well, holding opponents to 29.4% from there. Again, bad news for them in this one, as Stephen F. Austin does not shoot many 3's at all. Only 22.5% of their shots are from 3-point land, 343rd lowest out of the 347 D1 teams. The Lumberjacks like to wind the shot clock and work the ball inside, which is not good news for this Mavericks squad who is prone to fouling the opposition.

By looking at the total in the first game, 137 points combined, you would think it was played at a moderate pace. But that game was a foul fest at the end, the teams scored 27 points over the last 3 and a half minutes. I believe that Stephen F. Austin will be able to control the pace again in this one. They have been very successful with this style of play and the players have bought in. I will take the more discipline and better defensive team in this one. I expect the Lumberjacks to grind out a victory here in the first round of the Southland tournament, they hold Southland player of the year and former BC guard Marquez Haynes in check, and win this one by 6-8 points.

Good luck with all your plays. I'll be looking for more value and post a second play if I feel the value is there. Thanks as always for reading.

This is all about finding the value and cashing tickets buddy. Line movement in lesser known conferences, or games not being played as much as the big boys, is much more meaningful. That is exactly what we have here, so I think I got this locked in at the best number.
