What's up guys, I am a big St. Johns fan in college hoops.. i live in the area and the program has been close to me my whole life.. I really like this team this year... they are veteran laden and have been playing together for a few years now... Harrison is a great PG.. leader, tough guy, shot maker, Chris Obekpa may be the best defensive player in the nation.. this guy really reminds me of a raw Serge Ibaka..Phil Greene is their best shooter, only guy that consistently makes jumpers, sirDom Pointer is excellent with the ball in his hands, making plays, very athletic, very good defender, Rysheed Jordan is a pure scorer and great player.... they are a very athletic team that wins game with their defense and running and gunning... they have had slow starts the last couple of games, and i feel that could be their downfall later in the year... but both games vs. St. Marys and Long Beach State they ran them out of the gym in the second half and got the W and the cover...they also need to figure out ways to attack zone defenses much better.. because they are not the best jump shooting squad... but overall, I am very excited about this team this year and really think they can make some noise in the Big East and into the NCAA tourney..as of this post they are #17 in the nation (yea i know rankings mean squat this time of year, but still it's pretty cool)... Steve Lavin is a very good coach in my opinion, and has impressed me with his halftime adjustments this year... He knows the talent this team has and I feel he can take them to new heights this season... College bball guys, what do you guys think about my Johnnies??
If they keep rising up the rankings, I feel they may become a bit over valued, because they do tend to get off to slow starts and they aren't the best jump shoooting team, so there may be some opportunity to go against them in the future, especially against organized, well coached teams that slow it down, and wear you down with their bigs, because once Johnnies get in foul trouble, especially Obekpa, they are in trouble.. any input would be appreciated.. thanks guys and Happy Holidays!
