With college hoops about to begin, I thought I'd pick up several books by or about some of our most revered college coaches. I would appreciate any reviews of the book Tarkanian, or Calipari's newest book, "Players First, Coaching from the inside out."
Books by or about coaching are usually very motivating, although I read a John Wooden book recently and realized I would never live up to his pyramid of success and I was most likely on the fast track to hell. I'll get over it.
Regarding Tarkanian, he was the coach when I was at Long Beach State. He was a rebel by nature then and it's fitting he went to UNLV to coach the Runnin' Rebels to a national championship.
Any comments on these or other good basketball books are welcome.
BTW, for those who handicap hoops, I just finished Basketball on Paper by Dean Oliver. It doesn't deal directly with handicapping, but there's a ton of information in how to evaluate players and teams. Also, Handicapping College Basketball by Truce Fields is an excellent book for those new to the art.
