Thanks clearer Greg. I accutually don't listen to what the Sharps have said, i was just curious as to who they were and why a lot of people rely on what they say or do. I will NEVER put my money down soley on Sharp money moving a line one way or another. To me that is crazy. LOL

Greg Shaker

Jeff, I probably did not make myself real Clear. I love the term Sharp Bettor. I HATE the term "Sharps." Sharp bettors simply are betting a line that disagrees with their initial numbers and in a low volume setting, (Opening Lines) those lines will re-adjust...

That does not mean these Sharp Bettors even like the side they are betting. It just means they are positioning themselves with a good line...

Therefore, I totally disregard what happens early and it has no affect on me handicapping the game. The same should go for you...

When someone says "Sharps bet Kansas at -2 and now the line is up to -3" that does NOT mean Kansas is the right side and in fact due to the line change it offers value the other way..

My best advice to you. STOP listening to this crap. It means nothing at all..

I agree totally.

I know that about you Jeff. The bottom line. Line movement can create plays, but it should never discourage them. It's all about the number, not who moved it.

The Internet Age changed everything for the perceptions on SHARPS. Everything. No matter what they say, it's just the way it is. I can find anything, as can anyone else, about anything. Beat writers, you name it. Weather, you name it.

The difference now is that with the INTERNET, the world just isn't as big of a place.

I agree with Shaker in what he said regarding being sharp. Anyone with S.O. or another line service can talk about a line moving and then bet into the already moved line. Anyone can do that.

My thinking about sharps is even a little more different. To me, a sharp is anyone betting a line OR SPORT that is simply soft. And there are some amazingly soft lines in OTHER SPORTS every single day. Adapt with the market and what it gives you. That's what makes you sharp.

Just my opinion......

I am my own source. It's not a run when you do it over and over again with consistency and a mentality that you've done it before.

In nearly "5" years at pregame, if you COMBINED every SPORT SEASON together, i have turned a strong profit in EVERY SINGLE SPORT EXCEPT BASEBALL. Of all the things i've done here at pregame, this is EASILY what i'm most proud of. That's LONG TERM WINNING.

As always, thanks for that to continue to follow my work. Much, much appreciated

Yes Greg is a very Smart man and I always have respected what he has said. I have made plays early in the day because i knew lines were gonna move, but that was me anticipating line movements and not just making plays later in the day because sharp money moved the Line.  Plenty of people do that and I was  just curious as to why. Greg has cleared alot of that up though, especially what the term means. Thanks Greg.

Also I do watch line movements and I see if I see that sharp money is on one side I have gone and poured through all the Info (stats and stuff) on the game to see what they may see and If the stats don't add up at all i will go against them or stay away all together. Has worked pretty well for me.

Jeff Great post, I agree with your frustration on this matter as myself to would like to know what people they are referring to. Its pretty simple in my book either the play wins or loses could care less if sharps are on it or if its a Square Bet. Bottom Line if its a Winning Ticket or a loser

Mike Hook makes the best point of all. Sharp Bettors attack soft lines and that makes them Sharp. It' pretty simple stuff actually..

Personally I bet a lot of halftime lines, props, team totals, and even NBA quarters...

These lines are often much more beatable than standard Full Game Lines...

Why is that? Because volume on these plays are VERY LOW, so books don't patrol them. And many times they make HUGE Blunders..

They offer them because everyone does now and the risk they take by doing so is minimal. But for a bettor, they can be a major part of bankroll growth

The same goes for MMA, Golf, Nascar and other "Other" Sports. Great point Mike..

Ignore the "Sharps" Jeff. Stick to your handicapping buddy. Numbers and situations don't lie. Lines that move .5-1 point should not matter. Who knows how these games will go. We all get back-doored here and there, and if I could predict the future, I would be on a beach in Maui. Lol. Best your way as always my friend
