3 UNIT PLAYS
Wichita State/ Southern Illinois Under 122.5: These two teams played 2 weeks ago and 146 points were scored in that game. I don't feel this one will come close to that as MVC Tournament games tend to be very low scoring. Just look at yesterday's games, i which just 103 and 102 points were scored and the game with 102 needed OT to get there. SIU allowed 84 points in that earlier game vs the Shockers and you can bet that they will really look to slow the pace here. The Shockers have been excellent on defense this year, but SIU has been no slouch either, allowing just 62.2 ppg on the year. We also note that both teams have played 3 neutral site games this year and the Salukis allowed just 53.7 ppg in their 3 games, while the Shockers have allowed just 56.3 ppg in their three games. Wichita will get their points, but I really don't see more than 65 from them here, while the Salukis will be held to 50 or less. 65-48 sounds like a good score for this one.
Baylor/ Texas Tech Under 122.5: Earlier this year the teams put up just 103 points and in last year's 2nd meeting they but up just 108 points. This one may not be as low scoring, but it also may not be far off. Texas tech has been the worst offensive team in the Big 12 this year and have struggled even more on the road where they have averaged just 48.8 ppg overall and just 45.9 ppg on the road in the Big 12. How bad is this offense? Well the Cyclones may be the worst defensive team in the Big 12 and the Red Raiders could muster just 38 points in Ames. Now they face a Baylor team that knows how to play great defense, especially at home where they have allowed just 55.6 ppg this year. The Bears do aver 72 ppg and the Red Raiders have allowed 70.7 ppg on the road, but even if Baylor were to get to 70 points I just don't see the Red Raiders escaping the 40s in this one. After all they have been held to 43 or less in 4 of their 7 Big 12 road games this year. This one has 65-48 written all over it.
BEST OF THE REST
Northern Iowa/ Bradley Under 107.5: Boy will I hear about this one. LOL Is does take guts to play an Under with an OU line this low and I do have said guts. Back in February when these teams met at NIU the teams combined for a mere 95 points. and this one may very well be played under 100 points again. Bradley played last night and just 102 points were scored in that game, but the teams needed OT to get there, as just 86 points were scored in regulation. With the line at 15.5 here i think we can rule out OT for this one, plus it should not be a foul fest at the end. NIU has been an excellent defensive team, but they have to be a bit angry after allowing 74 points to Wichita state in their last game. I expect them to really lock it down defensively here and vs this Bradley offense that should not be all that hard. The Braves are ranked 346th in the nation in scoring this year, averaging just 57.4 ppg, while in 5 neutral site games for the team they have averaged just 51.8 ppg. Wow. For NIU, they come in allowing just 53.2 ppg in their last 5 games, while on neutral courts this year they have given up just 46.7 ppg. Really hard to see Bradley putting up more than 45 points in this one, while a solid Braves defense should hold the Panthers in the 50's. 57-42 sounds about right here.
