So, if Billy White is truly out for this game--it belongs to UNLV. You can't replace 27 minutes and 12 points a game AND a .625 FG% with Malcom Thomas. No disrespect for Thomas, but he can't carry the team for forty minutes. He will surrounded by two sophs and a frosh. SDSU already ran a short bench----only 29% of their minutes. And yes, I know SDSU was/is the #1 offensive rebounding team in the country--but again, I see nobody to step up.
UNLV losses were to SoCal on a neutral site, Kansas State (go figure) and BYU on the road--but they did cover at BYU. Not many have this year. Anyway, UNLV has a deep team, at least in terms of numbers. Over 41% of their minutes are from the bench---and THEY are the number one team in the country in opponents steal percentage. They don't tire and don't turn the ball over. The exact formula they used to beat Louisville.
UNLV scores 38% of their points from the free throw line, without a true dominant bg man----and they have NINE guys with 20+ FTA, so it's not just Tre'von Willis. And after Willis poor effort against USC--he has been herculean against BYU and New Mexico.
UNLV, after this game, has Utah coming in, then travel to Colorado State and TCU, all teams ahead of them in he MWC right now. They HAVE TO WIN THIS GAME. Do I see a huge set-up when they play at Wyoming before coming back home to BYU, yup. But not tonight!
UNLV play pretty much man to man---sooooooooooo, SDSU may hang with them for a while, but without White and depth, UNLV runs away in the second half. I'll give the 7 points.
Now Mike and all the Pregame people in Vegas can shoot it down! It's all good.
