Question for you "real" NHL handicappers from a "wanna be" like myself. I track game totals for each team (over/under/push in relation to total of 5) and I also track 1st period over/under 1.5 for each team. Obviously the sample size is REALLY small but is there something about early the NHL season where overs are more common?
So far in game totals 2/3 of the league has played half their games over 5. The more eye-opening number for me though is that half the league (having played two or three games) has played their first periods over 1.5 and 2/3 of the league has played at least 67% of their 1st periods over 1.5. All but two teams (St. Louis and NJ) have been over 1.5 half of their games.
Again, really small sample size but offense seems to be up early in the NHL and just wondering if this is the norm?
