Anybody thats been around baseball and wagering on it, knew that Kershaw was a dog tonight for a unknown (but good) reason. I had heard (but could not get reliable proof) from various sources, that Kershaw was trying to put off arm surgery until after this season ended. X- rays showed a small calcium deposit in one of his joint capsules, but while it didn't cause any pain, he was not throwing like he normally can. Sure he could have won tonight, and still might, but I will wager against a injured pitcher everytime! Once again the bookies suck in all the newbies! I didn't wager on Kershaw tonight, in fact I went against him, and I want no part of him until he gets the surgery.

The Dodgers were the dog, Harry, not Kershaw.

Let's look into this for a minute:

Here's Kershaw's line:

Pitcher IP PC H ER BB K

Kershaw 5.2 105 7 8 3 4

What sticks out here? I see quite a few things in his line.

--------

This may have something to do with STL being favored:

Not only were they home but:

Prior to tonight, Wainwright was 2-1 with a 0.70 ERA in five games - three starts - at home against the Dodgers, winning the last two with 14 scoreless innings.

Complete Game Shutout ....... Arm Surgery?????

Kershaw Ks seven in complete game shutout: Dodgers starting pitcher Clayton Kershaw bounced back after being knocked around during his last start during Sunday's outing against the Giants. Kershaw was flawless as he tossed a complete game five-hit shutout in the 4-0 victory. The left-hander struck out seven and walked one in his fifth career shutout, beating the Giants for the first time in three starts this season. He lost both previous outings despite allowing only four earned runs in 14 innings. Kershaw has now a 0.66 ERA in eight career starts at AT&T Park. "My fastball wasn't great. I just didn't have that little extra on it," Kershaw said. "But (my) offspeed was good and I mixed it up. It was just kind of a combination of everything, really."

I have to disagree. The reasons were not hidden

Vogelsong had 15 STRAIGHT quality starts coming into the game (now 16).  His era was 2.26, Kershaw's 3.14

Dodgers 26-27 away

Giants 31-19 at home

NPB 2013: 5-3 +3.35 Units

MLB 2010: 12-12 +3.96 Units
MLB 2009: 47-35 +15.27 Units

I was talking about the claim that LAD was an underdog last tues because Kershaw needs arm surgery. If that was the case, why did he throw 105 pitchs in tuesday's game against STL & follow it up with  a 115 pitch complete game tonight

Comprende

I was just disagreeing with the original post, not you.  The line was where it was at, because Vogelsong has been in beast mode all year and the Giants are a great home team.  The reasons for the line were not hidden IMO.

You make great points

I see what you're saying about today's game with SFG & Vogelsong, Mike but Harry was talking about the line Tues when the Dodgers visited STL. Kershaw went up against Wainwright

Straguzzi I think  it's called The Foot in Mouth Disease. Harry does it very well and he wonders WHY he gets taken to task.
