For the record, I read and listen to everything Mr. Malinsky contributes here on pregame.....I appreciate all of the above as well.....I just happen to disagree that coaches are somehow undermining the effort of their players, trying not to advance in their conference tournaments......that coaches are asking for and getting great efforts from their players, while they are purposely not doing everything they can to win.......especially someone like Coach K who has always talked about respecting the game

This is where you do touch on what is the prime point - sometimes respecting the game forces a tough decision to be made. If an all-out effort in the conference tournament is going to hurt the teams chances for the NCAA tourney, then a coach faces a real dilemma, and for most of the elite coaches if the choice comes down to one or the other, it will be the Big Dance taking priority. They are not "undermining", they are trying to maximize the opportunity that is in front of them, and sometimes that requires some deft juggling.

I'm watching Butler/Xavier and the broadcaster just said something that shocked me. He said that Butler has yet to win a Big East conference tournament game. They joined the big east in 2013. For all the tournament success they've had, the statement shocked me.

Hi David.

interested to get your comments on two late games here, Notre Dame +3.5 vs. Virginia and Kansas State +4.5 vs. Baylor.

I believe Notre Dame +3.5 is the right side here, Virginia despite pulling together a streak of victories is still struggling to shoot the ball, at NC St (38.7%), UNC (25.7%), PITT (40% and 48%), I discount last nights performance because PITT went all out vs. GT the night before.  Yes, UV beat ND earlier this season, but since then, Notre Dame has developed an entirely different style of play, the Irish come out spreading the floor with one man in the paint, the Cavaliers are not going to be ready. Interested to get your thoughts on ND +3.5

Despite losing once to Baylor this season, KSU has stayed within reach, and similar to my earlier post on OKST and ISU, KSU has won or been within reach in the TO, Assists, Steals, Blocks PF and FTAs.  At  +4.5 on a neutral do you see value on KSU?

The Notre Dame value ship sailed from the harbor when the +5 got away this morning. I do get a pinch to Kansas State if +5 shows, but I need the full +5 because it is not a favorable matchup for the Wildcats on the boards.

thank you David, just picked up some +5 on KSU a moment ago.

We should think of discussions like today's as the opportunity to develop handicapping points, and not necessarily as something adversarial, but on that front here is something that does get added to the files, from Bill Self. He was diplomatic, as someone of his experience should be, but also showed an awareness of the realities -

"I wasn't hoping it would be a one-and-out type deal at all. But it's not the worst thing that we can get our legs back under us."

Connecticut -3.5 @ -110 for the 2nd half against South Florida looks good.  This season can't end soon enough for the Bulls.

I wonder what you think of Bill Self as a coach Dave?  Do me he doesn't rank anywhere close to the top with the other coaches in basketball......He seems to have underachieved big time with relation to where his teams have been seeded going into the tournament and who they have lost 2 over the past 12 years or so.

Dave do you feel the rockets are better now then the first time they played the bulls? I believe that number was Hou 7.5 ..... 8.  Before Butler was announced out and im sure skewed that game in many ways. The madhouse on madison probaly worth 3.... Are the oddsmakers shorting the rockets here?

In appreciation for what you give us each day we are protective of anything we may consider an unkind word. You've given us much more than what we thought we were getting here. We are better people in this World everyday for your class and your kindness. Thank You
