Finally got out among the living this morning. Been down sick as hell with the flu the last several days. I rarely get ill but when I do it seems to be intent on making up for all the lost time, lol.
What the hell has got into the Missouri Tigers. Two straight home wins and a narrow loss down in College Station last week to the Aggies. I am frankly impresses with the job Kim Anderson is doing at keeping the lid on this thing. This team was on the verge of a epic meltdown and could have easily tanked from this point on. But, somehow Anderson has rallied the troops and they are playing hard, and having fun. Confidence is an amazing thing. Same players, different results. Now I am not naive, I told my friends that part of the reason for the recent success in my own view was the fact the opponents were not taking them seriously. We all too often forget we are dealing with kids here. They have a tendacy to do things their way. Coaches can tell them to take everyone seriously but in the real world that just is not always the case. I remember sitting listening to the late Charlie Spoonhour talk about the challenge of motivating kids to compete against inferior competition. It's tougher than most suspect. And not just in hoops. But, wins are a beautiful thing right now for this program, however they arrive. Of course in this what have you done for me lately world there are people now saying Anderson should be retained for another year. If they lose tomorrow to Bama those same people will resume calling for his head. Just wet your finger and stick it in the air.
The situation with Oakley and Dolan took up some table time this morning at breakfast. General feeling among my buddies and I was it was a shame the thing blew up in public like that. Would have been much more mature to meet in private and hash things out man to man. No, I don't want Charles to break the guy in half like he obviously could and might like to. But talk face to face and see if some agreement could be reached.
That insane game in Lawrence also drew some talk. Insane ending but it seems there are plenty of them this season. Around here fans just want anything that can go wrong for the Jayhawks to go wrong. I remember when Norm Stewart was coaching the Tigers basketball team and he took the club to Allen field house to play he would wait after the game until they were back over the state line before feeding his players dinner. He refused to donate one dollar to the kansas economy. Well, I have news for folks. From what I am hearing the Kansas Jayhawks, yes, the Kansas Jayhawks are having an excellent football recruiting streak. Just saying.
That about covered it for today. Nice to feel human again, the flu sucks. Good luck tonight guys.
