Nothing like living in a college town when the students are back in town. The mass of students have descended upon Columbia and Mizzou once again. Every year about now a new herd of bright eyed young folks appear. Traffic get's heavier and things change all around town.
Well the Royals have been rolling and a glitter of hope is still flickering for KC fans that the team can go on a wildcard run. Cards are playing pretty solid and harbor more realistic hopes. Just good to see both still in the mix. Pretty depressing for fans of teams who are out of contention early on. As Cardinals fans, it's been a long time since that happened. We take being in contention for granted. Cardinals fans are spoiled to the core. And yes, I am as big a Cardinals fan as there is around. But it is funny listening to the sports talk radio in Kansas City where the talking heads were shoveling dirt on the teams grave and now that they have won 8 in a row they are tripping all over themselves backtracking.
The subject of Puig came up this morning. Apparently he is doing well in Oklahoma City and the is speculation of who might make a deal for him for the stretch run. The Rays could use him but word is Mattingly wants nothing to do with it. I assure you if the kid keeps performing someone will step up. Winning trumps everything. Every time. Remember relief pitcher Steve Howe? I know many of you don't but I also know many of you do. That guy got so many chances I literally lost count. And that was dealing with more than a behavior issue. I whole Puig thing reminded me of a kid on our team back in high school. Eugene. He was truly gifted. Had all the tools. The entire package and the legit potential to take it to the top level. Problem with Eugene was he knew it. He showed up for practice when he felt like it and hustled when he felt like it. It was mind boggling because when he hit that switch he was glorious to watch. But our coach was pretty old school and we had a good team even without Eugene. He got the boot. And not surprisingly Eugene never amounted to a hill of beans. Such a waste.
About it for today. I know some fans of the Royals are thinking Puig might be a good addition. If any of you guys would or would not like the guy on your club I'd be interested to hear.
Good luck today with your action guys. Counting down to kick offs. (real ones).
