Well, the rubber is about to meet the road. For the FIRST time in history the arch rival St Louis Cardinals and Chicago Cubs will be squaring off in the playoffs. As many of you know I have been a Cardinals fan since the 1960's. Hell, I had an article published about being a Cards fan in a book by author Rich Wolfe. I love the Cardinals. In all these years I have witnessed the long time suffering of loyal Cubs fans. I can remember the collapse in 1969 when the miracle Mets made their comeback. I remember Leon Durham letting an easy ground ball get by him in the playoffs against the Padres. I also remember the night of Steve Bartman. Now once again the Cubs fans are feeling their oats. Well, at breakfast this morning my buddies were optimistic and frankly so am I. But like I told them, we have to plan on taking 3 of 4 from this team because nobody is beating Jake Arietta right now. You could field an all star team against that guy right now and he would, likely shut them out. It has all the makings on a fantastic series. Both are very, very good teams. All the chatter back and forth between the fans will be settled soon on the field.
Obviously the Royals are also in action and get started tonight. While there are more KC fans around mid missouri than there used to be they still very much take a back seat to St Louis around this area, particularly in the playoffs. I hope the Royals get back to the series, I truly do. One of my closest, long time friend of around 35 years, Pregame poster Richard Mayfield is a loyal Royals fan. For his sake I hope they make it back. Of course once they get to the Series if they hook up against the Cardinals then here we go, 1985 revenge time.
Much apprehension about the Mizzou game saturday night against Florida. The Gators defense is the real deal and although the Tigers offense looked better saturday against South Carolina they did not exactly light it up. Still in no way resemble the offense of recent years and now they have to score on the best unit they have faced all year. Yup, plenty of reason to be concerned. The stadium will be packed and rocking.
On the NFL front the Chiefs fan know that if the team dumps this game at Arrowhead this sunday against the Bears you can put a fork in them. This is a must win, period. Their early season schedule was just brutal. I expected them to be 2-2 at this point but they are 1-3. I have a feeling they take care of business this weekend guys. As for the Rams, there was some real satisfaction with the impressive win at Arizona. Now they get to go to Lambeau and take on the Packers. Oh boy. I've talked to both Rams fans in town and they are not optimistic.
That was about it for this morning except my extremely rare instance where I complained about my eggs. New cook I was told. I am easy to please but do not under cook my eggs. That's gross. Reminded me of Napoleon Dynamite where the farmer just drank the eggs straight out of the glass. Man that is just not right.
If anyone has anything to add in just step up. Even if you are a Cubs fan. I will be nice if you will do likewise.
