Great decision. 2 friendly pieces of advice.
1. You will take your iMac for granted after a year or so, but make sure to backup to the cloud or an external HD, as eventually (after 3-4 years) the hard drive may fail.
2. Buy Apple Care. Apple Care support is excellent and well worth the piece of mind to protect your investment.
Any computer is a investment just like a your car is, treat it like crap and it will run like crap.
A Mac can get a virus just like a Windows product can, the reason they don't get as many is because scammers don't create ones that only affect 15% of computers, viruses created to affect Windows products have zero affect on a Mac and vise versus. Macs don't get less viruses because it's a better product they get them less often because there are much fewer of them written that target them.
No matter the product the only reason people get viruses these days is because they don't have the right protection or what they have is out of date.
