I am a day late with this one. But better late than never. On March 4, 1990, is it possible it's been 25 years? Hank Gathers collapsed and died on the court during a game. It sent shock waves through the country, and not just ESPN and such. I remember being stopped in my tracks when I heard the news. It never seems possible that a young athlete, supposedly in stellar health and the prime of life can pass away so suddenly. But we've seen it. I recall when Detroit Lions wide receiver Chuck Hughes collapsed and died on the field in a game against the Bears. I personally lost a teammate in high school, Jeff Davis who just flat out died out of the blue. No real point to this today except to stress the importance of living each day to it's fullest. We all have our own personal clock ticking away and we don't know for sure how many more ticks each of us are blessed with. I have learned in my 56 years to never take life for granted. I know that is a cliche but it is so true. It can all come to a crashing end at any moment. I've seen it up close and personal too many times. Even involved a daughter so I do speak from personal experience. I know we get all tied up in games and point spreads but if that, my friends, is the center of your universe then I feel sorry for you and it is time to take a hard look in the mirror for some reevaluation.
Okay, a free winner. Tonight I am suggesting a small wager on the Thunder in Chicago against the Bulls. As I enter this the Thunder are laying a basket. Without Rose and Butler on the floor I am not convinced the Bulls have the horsepower to keep pace should the Thunder decide to play at an uptempo pace. Of course we all know both these teams can be wildly unpredictable. This is not a subscriber play. This is frankly a lean as much as anything. I do like the way Russell Westbrook is playing right now, but he can run hot and cold.
On the business side we cashed again last night with another featured release as the Oregon Ducks ventured into very hostile territory and got the job done against the Beavers. Dana Altman has his club clicking right now and they will be a team nobody will want to draw in the dance. I do wish they were a little stronger down in the post but that is a dangerous team. Very dangerous. We have now hit on 23 of the last 29 college hoops releases including six straight Triples. I want to also thank those who have taken advantage of the Pregame early offer for March Madness. They have priced it beyond reasonable. I'm looking forward to it, a lot. I am still looking at todays options. If I decide to pull the trigger I will tweet it out immediately. I can tell you there is one college game saturday I cannot wait to see a number on. If it is where I anticipate I will come out very, very strong on it.
That is it for now guys. Thanks for stopping by and best of luck tonight. Enjoy the games!
