Ask the millions out of work if they care about Wall St. right about now. I'm guessing not. They're more concerned with Main St.

dennis, I agree, but it is an interesting correlation. Pretty sure if it was the other way rightwingers would be talking proudly about it.

On another note this Paul Ryan guy passed two laws in 13 years. Genius he is.

In 2000, Paul Ryan passed a law that that changed the name of the post office in Janesville WI. The post office is now called the Les Aspin Post Office Building.

In 2008 (Or 4 election cycles later) Ryan introduced a bill that changed the way arrows used in bow hunting are taxed. From HuffPo, “Specifically, his bill amended the Internal Revenue Code to impose a 39-cent tax per arrow shaft, instead of a 12.4 percent tax on the sales price. The bill also includes points suitable for use with arrows in the 11 percent excise tax on arrow parts and accessories.” Ryan, an avid bow-hunter basically wrote a piece of legislation into the tax code, that would save him and his buddies from having to pay sales tax. Arrows average anywhere from $35 to $185 dollars.

Out of respect for this thread, I will not be replying to anymore  comments addressed to me by toofdoc. There are too many other people with whom to debate. I'll not waste my precious time anymore with someone who knows nothing about me, yet insists on making personal remarks about me such as "Stop gambling your wife's hard earned money away!" and "Get a job and help the economy" and "You are not contributing to society's betterment" and finally " why don't you use the extra money you have to help people?". These are statements born from ignorance about who I am and what kind of person I am.

Yea things are heading the right way, Wall street included. In that context, Wall Street is a part of "things". Not sure what's so hard to understand?

Genius he is.

You probably oughta look into things before you make a post like that. I have heard more than one person who would know that it's a race trying to keep up with Ryan intellectually in a conversation. Compared to Clinton, actually.

Knowledge Is Power           Paul Ryan and Bob Corker are unusual members of Congress. They know a lot.

            January 17, 2011

Vol. 16, No. 17 • By FRED BARNES
Paul Ryan was 28 when he arrived in the House of Representatives in 1999 as a Republican freshman from Wisconsin. Eager for advice, he sought the counsel of dozens of veteran House members on how to be an effective congressman. The most consequential advice came from an unexpected source, Democrat Barney Frank of Massachusetts. It was guidance for a committed conservative from one of Washington’s leading liberals.

And it was quite simple: Be a specialist, not a generalist. As they talked over breakfast in the members’ dining room, Frank went into considerable detail. “Pick two or three issues and really focus on them rather than being a yard wide and an inch deep,” Ryan says Frank told him. Do your homework. Concentrate on committee work. Study. If you do, you’ll be in the room when bills are written.

Ryan has followed that advice rigorously. His motto is, “Inquire, inquire, inquire, read, read, read.” He has made himself an expert on the budget, taxes, and health care. Ryan knows more about the federal budget than anyone else on Capitol Hill and talks about it more fluently. Because of this, he was a shoo-in for chairman of the House Budget Committee last week, elevated over colleagues with more seniority. He will draft the House version of the 2012 budget, a document the Democrat-controlled Senate and the White House will have to take as seriously as the budget proposal of the executive branch, which the Obama administration is set to release early next month.

There’s an old Washington adage that Ryan personifies almost perfectly: Knowledge is power. He’s become enormously influential because he knows so much more than his colleagues on a few issues. And they happen to be the most critical issues in 2011—spending, the deficit, the national debt, taxes, Obama’s health care plan, the size and reach of government.

I see no proof things are heading the right way, just that Wall St. is enjoying good numbers. Is that hard to understand?
