Honest Questions are better than Dishonest Questions and I do have a few cents here...

I do writeups but many times I do not. I do think that most writeups are nothing more than finding reasons to put down on paper, reasons to bet a play that are not the REAL Reasons why a Handicapper likes the play. It's kinda like many feel that if they have a LOT OF WORDS in there somewhere, then it makes the play BETTER..

I try to tell people why the line has moved, where the line is going, where has it been, and advice on what to do with the current line. I think these are things that people can use to learn. I also try to explain to people ways they can determine why lines move...

BUT, if I see something that is moving unfavorable to my position, I will cut thoughts short so that my people can get down on the play, and then come back with thoughts later. I do think that if a Handicapper can teach people in an effective way, he should. But doing so on each and every play is not possible if that handicapper is doing things the right way..

I guess the bottom line for me: Writeups generally suck in this industry and most Cappers Writeups are very similar and PREDICTABLE. There are some that are worth reading as one can read between the lines to learn how to be a better capper themselves..

what Greg said.......

I am my own source. It's not a run when you do it over and over again with consistency and a mentality that you've done it before.

In nearly "5" years at pregame, if you COMBINED every SPORT SEASON together, i have turned a strong profit in EVERY SINGLE SPORT EXCEPT BASEBALL. Of all the things i've done here at pregame, this is EASILY what i'm most proud of. That's LONG TERM WINNING.

As always, thanks for that to continue to follow my work. Much, much appreciated

Good points, Greg.  Sad thing is many people don't realize they suck, and use the useless information in them when doing their own capping

You want a handicapping tip?  Spend as much time getting a good number as you do researching games. Depositing/withdrawing/depositing/withdrawing is a bitch, but I guarantee you will lose less, or win more.  I can't guarantee that for any other piece of advice

How would one answer this question with a capper they follow for free?

Rule #2. Discipline!

I love steve beavs write-ups but entirely up to the poster as we all check the box individually. The quality of the write-up is much more important than is there a write up i.m.o.The quality of the write up can be a good indicater of how much thought and consideration went into the play.Thought and consideration always reaps perspective,it does seem the more thought and consideration one puts into it the better that perspective will be.

I would love to see Steve start keeping records.  Just from casual observation, his picks don't seem to stand out as winning far more than losing.  Plus he plays -EV teasers in both football and basketball which decreases my respect for someone as a serious bettor to near zero

I believe it would be: Would you rather have write-ups or nothing?

I am not trying to be a wet rag here. But the fact is, many writeups that I see offer NOT MUCH in respect to what is already known. Hell, there are people/companies that offer "Writeups" for hire. You make the Pick, they do the writeup for you.

I can guarantee you something. You give me a game and I can do a "Writeup" on either side, either total, that will TOTALLY convince most people to bet that side/total either way..

We as Handicappers, Paid or Forum Guys, should not resort to finding info that supports our beliefs, and instead we should actually put down thoughts that we DO believe to be true. I am not saying that everyone does this and we all can learn from varying opinions....It is just my experience that many put down thoughts as a way to CONVINCE, not to teach, and not those that we actually believe are MOST important.

Too much Sluff, not enough content for the majority and we can do better. That's all I am saying..

I like write-ups because I think most gamblers have an ebb and flow with winning and I want to know what they are thinking. I bought long term and I often use the write up to take a total instead of the side that is the actual pick.  Just because the capper is +100 units does not mean i will be because some nights I drink more.
