Losing sucks. But we all know you can’t bet sports without sometimes losing.
Over the years, we’ve learned what helps (and hurts) when it comes to reactions to a Pro losing a big game or being on a losing streak ...
* Constructive criticism helps … during an honest back and forth, both the Pro and the poster (and the thread readers) will often learn. You got a legit question, ask it. The answer may help you understand why he bet the game. Or, the answer may help you understand that this Pro doesn’t think like you do, and you don’t want to follow him anymore. The only way to get better is to learn from the losses.
* Bitching can also help. Yep, plain old bitching. Sure, your brain should want to learn - but your heart wants to bitch. I totally understand that. I’ve bet pretty much every day since I was 14 years old, and after 30+ years I HATE losing. Here’s the key … a good Pro is one you want to bitch together WITH, not against. Feeling the pain knowing other followers and the Pro feels it to is the best way to deal. I can’t be sure any game is going to win – but I'm 100% sure that each and every Pregame Pro wants to win badly. Just as badly of you. Knowing that you share that - that you are all on the same side - allows you to feel the pain together ... and that can really help.
If you don’t know that – if you aren’t sure the Pro feels the pain of losing – YOU SHOULDN’T BUY PICKS FROM HIM.
A particularly mistaken line of thought is that the Pro gets paid any way, so why would he care. So wrong. The Pro is being paid for his handicapping WORK, and customers pay because they’ve made the decision that the result of that work is valuable. If you consider the 100+ hours per month each Pro puts in, a buyer is paying him less than a few dollars per hour for that work. That’s why a good Pro can be a great deal.
If you don’t think a handicapper’s work is valuable, you should choose not to buy from him. If you do think he's expert, then the result of any individual pick shouldn’t change that.
... But that doesn’t mean that you can’t bitch WITH HIM when you lose – LOL.
Obviously, this is involves evolved thinking. Once you realize that feeling the urge to bitch isn’t wrong – but blaming a Pro for sometimes losing is … at that point a vast majority of you get it.
There's are no sure-things ... and Pregame NEVER promotes a sure thing. Every day we stress that winning is hard - and even winning in the end involves lots of losing.
For the mindless few, Pregame is not for you. There are many other sites that will let you abuse their pick sellers because they are so hard-up for your money. Pregame believes to our core that we are lucky to have Pros like Spartan, and the many customers we so appreciated & value feel the same.
