It was an interesting weekend around Columbia and I listened to some real honest concerns around the table this morning. Saturday night my wife and I went to a local sports bar that is our regular joint. It is owned by a buddy who used to play football for Mizzou. That being the case on homecoming weekends when a ton of former players flock into town they inevitably end up there at night after the game. It was entertaining and sad at the same time to listen to them talk about the game saturday and the state of things. It was hard to digest that Middle Tennessee State came into here on homecoming and beat them. No disrespect to the Blue Raiders or their program intended, but an SEC team should not lose their homecoming game to them. What we see is a team being outplayed, out coached and out everything. It's depressing. Barry Odom's strength was his prowess as a DC. The Tigers defense is a shell of itself from recent years. DeMontie Cross, an ex Tiger as well is a great guy, but failing miserably in his first year as DC. Frankly there are other issues here. Just as frankly I cannot divulge what they are. I still have to live here among friends.
We, at breakfast had all been together saturday night so we all saw the Cubs hysteria going on. Of course this is the heart of Cardinals country and rooting for the Cubs is simply an act against nature around here. Being a college town there are many here from Cubs country and they were vocal. Very, very vocal. I found myself looking to the heavens and asking the good lord to please give the poor bastards a break. They've waited long enough. I admit, I did smile when I saw them seal the deal. Good stuff for very loyal fans.
I brought up the fact this morning the NBA was getting ready to tip off and got the deer in the headlights look, lol. Pro ball is not exactly on anyones mind around these parts. They all know my work and what I do as a bettor so they get it. But I assure you none of them except me will be paying attention to the opener between the Utah Jazz and Portland Trailblazers.
That was about it for this morning. I wonder how many of you guys on the forum who are fans of other teams were reacting internally as the Cubs closed in on it. Were you glad for them? Or did you not care, obviously apart from the betting interest. This is probably the last place to pose that questions. Everyone who hangs here has betting interests. But, I think some of you will know what I mean. I'd be interested in your own thoughts.
Have a great week guys. World series between the Indians and Cubs. Good Lord Agnes!!
