Oldhead- I agree with you. Generosity doesn't come without risk. Try jamming a bunch of change into a coin slot in the donation container that's designed for a single f*%#!'ing dime. and a dime barely fits.
It would take forever and guarantee an assault from someone in line behind you. Nobody waiting impatiently for anything Supersized has the patience for slow generosity at a Fast food restaurant.
I assume everyone donates something; time money, thought, etc. to someone at some point in their lives. Other than my Uncle Stan, nobody can be a perfect asshole for their entire life. Statistically impossible. So to balance it out, next time they ask if you'd like to donate to fill--in-the-blank charity, tell them, proudly, you just donated to fill-in-the-blank-charity earlier. "Earlier" could refer to the day, week, month, year or dreams. Everyone wins.
