Mixed feelings at the table this morning. The Royals came back in strong fashion to put it mildly to extend the series and send it back to the K. On the flip side the Cardinals came up short at Wrigley. Confidence remains high though with the Cards as we have seen this team come back too many times. One interesting thing I brought up at the breakfast was a human behavior observation. I have mentioned it before. One of the spectacular things about sports is anything can usually happen and often does. Teams come back all the freaking time, it happens constantly. Yet, for some reason there are fans and observers who are more than willing to throw in the towel so early if their team gets down. Man, that just blows my mind. If you have ever played sports you know good luck is the residue of hard work. Most teams are capable of fighting back into games and they do it often, very often. Yet time and time again I see people waving the white flag at the first sign of trouble. Simply amazing. Hell, a small but perfect example came for my softball team just two weeks ago. We have a very good club, won the spring league, tied for first in summer and can clinch tonight in fall ball. We have been tough to beat for years. Yet a couple of weeks ago we were down to another sound ball club by 7 runs with two out in the final frame. I can honestly say we had not given up. Not one guy in that dugout had decided it was over. We rallied and won the game. Anything can happen in sports, and often does. What is hilarious is people can have it proven to them and realize they just made a huge error in giving up too early yet if put in the same circumstances the very next day will once again exhibit the same behavior. I can see it in some of my own clients. Some guys remain upbeat and optimistic if a game is going badly early. Some others just immediately throw their hands up in the air and give up. Then often come back later and are like, wow, who would have thought. Well, a lot of us dude. Just an interesting reflection of people in general. Some truly do see the glass as half full and some half empty.
Lot's of apprehension with the Tigers traveling down to Athens this saturday night to battle the Bulldogs. When I told my buddies the line was at 16 they about crapped. None of us could recall the last time Mizzou was that kind of dog, unless it was against Bama.
Some shock over Spurrier calling it quits so abruptly. I just hope his health is okay. I guess it is better to hang it up and do it now, as they say, do it or get off the pot. Better than mailing it in. I hope he is all right.
That was about it for today. The whole town will be tuning in this afternoon as the beloved Cardinals try desperately to get this thing back to Busch. It is always tough to swallow to have a season end, but to get eliminated by the Cubs and at Wrigley will be a brutal thing for a lot of folks.
Crazy time of year, lot's of action going on. If anyone has a view they would like to share, well just pull up a chair.
