I've been a part of the Pregame team for a little over a month, and I really can't believe how much my understanding of the sports betting world has changed in that time. I have been pretty up front that, when it comes to betting, I am an amateur. I didn't know about things like MLB totals and sides, and every day I Skype David Malinsky with at least three questions asking what abbreviations mean, why certain stats are important, and whether or not UK can bounce back from the mass exodus that transpired last week (in my head I had somehow convinced myself only two of the guys were leaving. Oops).
A month ago, if you told me I'd not only be watching golf, but wagering on golf, I wouldn't have believed you, but I found Brady Kannon's enthusiasm for the Masters and knowledge of the sport too infectious to ignore. I started following golf for Brady, but I stayed for the outfits, which are something I continue to have questions about. There are so many light-colored pants. How do they keep them clean? Are they lined to prevent sweat? And if they are lined, those pants are awfully tight, so what is the lining? A male version of leggings? Anyways, I digress…
I didn't think I would be tracking the Cincinnati Reds this closely either, but the "Help Jess Like Baseball" contest has me enthused about the game again, and I'm eager to learn more.
Which brings me to the point I want to make. Every member of the Pregame community is at a different part of their sports betting journey. It isn't a matter of smart and dumb, it is a matter of experience. Dave Cokin has been a bettor for the duration of my lifetime, while I have been at it for 31 days, not 31 years.
So, one of the major goals we've set for ourselves is to provide an array of content that appeals to people on the sports betting spectrum. We introduced a thread where beginners or people who may be super sharp in one sport but not so wise in another can go, ask questions, and get answers from people in the know. We've also done a couple of Plan to Win threads, which I love to comb through and look for common tips and tricks from the assorted Pregame.com Pros to put together in one easy-to-read post.
It isn't just beginner content we are focusing on though. David Malinsky's Point Blank is great high-level reading, and we're going to be doing more of that stuff, like we did with our deep dives into baseball during our Dave Essler and Greg Shaker webinars.
We've also launched a new Twitter account for you the more advanced folks out there who are looking for incredibly precise statistics that will improve your sports betting prowess in 140 characters or less. So, if you want to check out @PregamePhD, we're still in the beta process of figuring out exactly what kind of info it should be putting out there, so by all means, Tweet at us suggestions, retweet or favorite the ones you like, and you can even come in here in the thread and tell us what you'd like to see more of in the future.
We've also got some podcasts in the pipeline for those who would like a little entertainment and a lot of info about the NBA playoffs.
I think we're making strides at diversifying the info we provide here at Pregame to help people along their journey towards being a better bettor. If you think there is an area we've missed, say those who are solid recreational players looking to pick up another sport or sharpen their edges, let us know by commenting in the thread. Who knows? At this rate, I might just be the one transitioning out of the beginner stage into a more frequent bettor in need of a new level of info the next time I pen a letter from the Desk of Jess.
