Johnny Avello is the Sportsbook director at the Wynn and joins the show to talk about the upcoming Pacquiao/ Mayweather fight
The Mayweather/ Pacquiao fight is now scheduled for May 2nd, which is the same day as the Kentucky Derby. Is that good or bad for Johnny?
Johnny states that for the Derby it is a good thing, but for himself it is not. He was going to run a contest that weekend for the derby, but with the fight now taking place the rooms around town and at the Wynn are being gobbled up so quickly that he had to cancel the contest.
Jay Kornegay stated last week that the High end of his intake for the fight will be 80 Million. Johnny feels that that is too high and estimates his high end at 50 million.
Looking at the fight Johnny feels this is a Pacquiao fight as far as where the money will go. He has a huge following, especially from the Philippines. Johnny also states that there will be a big lull once this fight is over as there just doesn't seem to be a big named fight like this one on the horizon.
The Wynn attracts some of the bigger high rollers around and while it my bring in some huge big money players, it will not compare to the Superbowl. He expects some big bets, but just not nearly as many as the Super Bowl.
He does expect a huge crowd, but still not many con actually watch it live and the closed circuit TV locations are limited. Will people just come into town if they can't watch the fight. Allot of people just won't be able to watch the fight, which may keep allot of people at home.
