After litigating cases for 2+ decades against the big boys on Wall Street ... I stopped believing in coincidences.
Just a few weeks before the news broke on the charges against AP, he was in the news for communicating directly with Jerry Jones about wanting to play for the Cowboys and this occurred in front of an ESPN reporter, ensuring that it got reported. At the time, everyone's reaction was - huh? The question was posed as to why Jones would be stupid or careless enough to do be involved in such a communication where the media is right there and he could be accused of tampering.
At the time, I just wrote it off to Jones liking attention. But I also thought it was a little odd that AP would be fixated on Cowboys.
Looking back on it now ... I cannot help wonder whether this was all done looking ahead to Peterson potentially defending himself in a Tx court to a Tx jury. In one of my favorite sports movies - Mystery Alaska - the Town's star forward stands trial for criminal assault before a big game, and the prosecutor never stood a chance.
I liked AP's chances at trial anyway, but it sure won't hurt his chances if his future is viewed as being with the Cowboys.
"Well, I understand, Adrian," Jones told Peterson during the call, per Van Natta. "I'd like that, too ... Well, I love your story. I love your daddy's story. I've always respected what you've been about. I've always been a fan of yours."
"Well, we'll see what we can do, if we can make that happen,"
I'll bet you will, Jerry.
Adrian calls Jerry Jones a few weeks before his indictment and 4 years still left on his contract and all in front of an ESPN reporter - Coincidence?
You tell me.
