So many issues, so little time......
In no particular order.......
At the start of the football season there are approximately 3000 players to look after. 3000! That's 3000 young men, in the prime of their life, with a collective net worth in the tens of Billions. One more time for emphasis.....3000 young men worth BILLIONS! I think the NFL does an outstanding job of keeping these guys in line and should be applauded for their efforts.
This just in......Adrian Peterson is an idiot. Seriously, he is just not as evolved as the rest of the population. Yes, I think he is just plain stupid. Call it whatever you want, how he was raised, where he was raised, the way teachers looked the other way because he was a star athlete...whatever. The guy obviously, through his words and his actions, just flat out does not know right from wrong. Luckily for him, he lives in the right Country. AP lives in a place where it's ok to have multiple kids with multiple women, not live with any of them, and somehow have the right to hit those kids with a variety of objects including hands and weapons, and somehow escape justice under the umbrella of "parenting". It makes me sick, I hope the laws change to reflect this particular type of idiocy, but for now he gets away with those actions as a US citizen.
The NFL is a different animal. So huge, so popular, so polarizing, that sometimes (not often enough for some people), they can get away with ignoring lawful compliance and basically create their own laws, their own code of conduct, and instill their own brand of discipline. I personally don't know how they get away with it, and the many lawsuits they've lost only seem to be a blip, but like it or not, they have immense power over a large variety of situations that affect an amazing amount of people.
But know this......the goal of the NFL is not to be the moral standard by which everyone else is measured. I have no idea why anyone thinks that and have no idea why anyone holds them to that standard. I'd like to think I'm an intelligent guy and I really have never heard a good response to that conundrum.
Please don't tell me it's about the kids, about role models, about heros........once again, for more emphasis.......and I say this without hesitation.......collectively, the 3000 men in NFL training camps that started the season, are collectively, as a group, some of the finest, most respectable, most accomplished young men of their generation. You can choose 3000 young men from any other walk of life and I'll take the young men of the NFL and stake a claim to them having the most integrity, honor, discipline, and pride as any other group there is.
Rice, Peterson, Hardy, McDonald, Gordon......these are 5 idiots that need to be dealt with accordingly. In my estimation, they will all meet their fate soon enough. The punishment may not be swift enough for some, but I certainly hope it is severe. But hey, I don't define the NFL by those 5 idiots, I define the NFL by the other 2995 guys that have busted their humps to get where they are and have been doing everything they can to stay on top of their dreams and aspirations.
Anyone who defines the NFL by the 5 idiots that are gathering all of the attention is obtuse.
Best wishes for picking winners -
