Jon Anik is an MMA analyst and he joins the show to break down UFC 187.
Anthony Johnson vs Daniel Cormier is the main fight on this card and Johnson is the dog in this fight. Johnson may be the best pure power puncher in this sport and he showed that in the fight vs John Jones. Cormier's only loss was to John Jones and that is why he is the favorite here. If this fight goes longer than 5 rounds then Johnson gets the edge and Jon Anik does feel it will go over 5 rounds. He likes the dog here.
Scott agrees that Johnson is a bruiser of a fighter and in an earlier meeting between the two it really looked like Johnson took Cormier's confidence from him.
Jon also states that Cormier has a tendency to check out mentally in fights, and while some worry that if he wins the fight it will hurt the sport, Jon doesn't feel that it will.
On to John Dodson vs Zach Makovsky. John is a big favorite here, but he has had a long layoff. Can that hurt him? Jon Anik feels there may be some value on Makovsky here, even though Dodson is one of his favorite fighters. Makovsky is one of the best pure athletes in then MMA and Dodson has had a tendency to start slow. In a 3 round fight that could be trouble.
On to Chris Weidman vs Vitor Belfort. Weidman is a big favorite in this one and Scott asks if it is a mismatch or should it be closer? Jon hopes it closer. Belfort has changed his style of fighting and Chris Weidman is just a beast, who has very few weaknesses.
This card has some big favorites and Jon would parlay Weidman, Travis Brown, Joseph Benavidez and Colby Covington together to make it a +140 parlay.
Covington was Scott's value play of the week and Jon Anik agrees that it is a good play. Covington is -265 and Scott felt it should be -320 or higher.
