Scott, Steve and Andy take a look at American Pharoah's chances of winning the Triple Crown.
American Pharoah won the Preakness fairly easy and now has a chance to win the Triple Crown.
The Triple Crown was last won in 1978 by Affirm and since then 13 horses have gone into the final leg of the Triple Crown with a chance to win and none of them have.
Scott says that you always have to worry about the assassins in the Belmont as many of he horse that are in this race skipped the Preakness, while American Pharoah will be the only horse to run all 3 races. Todd Pletcher has a slew of horse just ready and waiting to take down AP.
Andy states that if you go back 40 years when we had 3 TC winners in he 70s and that may have been mainly because most of the horse did run all three races. Nowadays there is strategy being used and holding horses out of the Preakness just to run in the Belmont, so a horse like AP will be going up against many fresher horses. Usually horse run ones every 3 weeks or once a month and AP will be asked to run 3 times in a 5 week period.
Scott does like the way horse racing is set up right now and hopes that there are no changes to it. He likes the fact that it is hard to do. It is supposed to be hard.
Steve says he will bet the No on whether AP wins the Triple Crown. He says that these days the right side is always the No.
Andy states that the key to this whole thing is the fact that NBC is thrilled to have a chance at getting a Triple Crown winner. The Belmont Stakes is now a much more relevant race with the Triple Crown on the line.
