It's Mayweather/ Pacquiao week and that means there will be plenty of coverage of the fight on First Preview this week. Right now Arnie Lang joins the show to talk about the fight.
The simple question is from RJ is, is their any value left for this fight? Arnie doesn't have action on the fight and really doesn't have an opinion on whether there is value left.
Dave Malinsky asks if this is the biggest fight of the New Social Media era? Arnie isn't really sure because has hasn't really been around the media rooms in a few years. He does state that the Mayweather/ De La Hoya fight was the first big fight of the modern media era.
Teddy wonders if there have been any fights that can equal the level of this fight in Vegas. Arnie states that it is bigger that Holyfield/ Tyson 2 and according to the buzz of this fight it is far and away the biggest fight in Vegas and internationally this century.
Dave asks if this fight is the beginning of something for the sport or the end of something? Arnie states that boxing has been on the ropes for years in terms of popularity and they even said it when times are good. He does worry that this fight might be a dud and then that would really hurt the sport for sure.
Boxing does seem to be trending down overall. What may be the reason for this? Arnie does state that there are more fights now than in the Ali/ Frazier era and that can be attributed to the rise of the Indian casinos. Boxing is propelled by the heavyweight division, but there isn't many heavyweights for the sport to hang its hat on. That has hurt the sport, especially in the states.
Allot of money has come in on the draw in this match. Arnie feels that the fight will go to the cards, meaning the distance. 9 of Manny's last 10 fights have gone the distance, while 10 of Floyd's last 12 have gone the distance. There used to be a time when playing the draw was very popular, especially if you thought it was going the distance. He would need to get a better price on the draw than what is out there right now. There have been just 2 draws combined between the 2 fighters.
