England - League 2 - Shrewsbury (-140) 2*
This match kicks Tuesday at 2:45pm EST.
A visit from the Cumbrians should be just what the Dr. ordered for Shrewsbury to bounce back from B2B league road losses. Carlisle is a hot mess right now. They fired their manager after a 5-0 drubbing at Cambridge 2.5 weeks ago. They’ve since conceded 7 goals in two league matches. That’s 12 goals conceded in their L3 league matches. Yikes! It should come as no surprise that Carlisle ranks dead last in League 2 in overall defense, conceding 17 goals in 7 matches and dead last in away defense, conceding 8 goals in 3 matches. This is bad news as Shrewsbury rank 3rd in overall offense, scoring 11 goals in 7 matches and 1st in home offense, scoring 8 goals in 3 matches. Shrewsbury has conceded just 1 home goal for a sporty +7 goal differential. Conversely, Carlisle has scored just 1 away goal for a putrid -7 goal differential.
Shrewsbury was promoted to League 1 last season. As is often the case with newly promoted teams, they struggled with the new level of competition and were promptly relegated back to League 2 this season. They have promotion on their minds yet again and this is the type of match they simply must get all 3 points from if they are going to contend come May. Shrewsbury has been a dominant home team in League 2 over the past few seasons. In fact, they haven’t lost a home match since March of 2011. That’s a run of 33 matches where they’ve posted a 24W9D0L mark. Look for them to make that 25W this afternoon.
