EUGENE, Ore. - Police clocked a star University of Oregon football player driving 118 mph without a valid driver's license early Sunday morning on Interstate 5 south of Albany. Cliff Harris, 20, was cited by Oregon State Police for driving suspended and going 118 mph in a 65 mph speed zone. An off-duty trooper spotted the vehicle around 4:32 a.m. Sunday and obtained a radar reading of 118 mph. The trooper overtook the speeding 2011 Nissan Altima and contacted Harris. A check with the State of Oregon indicated Harris was driving with a suspended operator's license. A passenger with a valid license drove the rented vehicle from the scene. "Why are you guys smoking dope driving home at 118 miles an hour?" the trooper asked. "Just trying to get home," Harris replied. "How much did you have to smoke this morning?" the trooper asked "Just a blunt." Oregon head football coach Chip Kelly said he believes Harris, who told the officer in the dashboard video that the marijuana belonged to his cousin. "I saw (on video) Cliff go through a sobriety test that the OSP officer let him go on," Kelly said. "He wasn't charged with that." QB Thomas in Car. Oregon State Police also revealed on Tuesday that star Quarterback Darron Thomas was among the passengers in the car driven by Harris in June. Thomas was not cited for anything during the stop. Kelly said Tuesday that Thomas would not be disciplined. "I'm not punishing someone for being a passenger," Kelly said. It's not the first time Thomas has been a passenger in a car driven by an Oregon player who has faced trouble. Thomas was also with quarterback Jeremiah Masoli when he was pulled over last summer for a traffic infraction and marijuana was found in the car. Masoli, who had earlier pleaded guilty on an unrelated burglary charge, was dismissed from the team by Kelly. UO player Terrell Irvin drove the car the rest of the way to Eugene after the traffic stop. No one was cited for drug or alcohol charges. An employee, who does not work in the athletic department, rented the car for personal use, university spokesman Dave Williford said. According to an email exchange between the employee and The Register-Guard newspaper, Harris and an unidentified football player asked her to extend the rental and compensated her for use of the car. She was told that another player -- not Harris -- would be driving, she told the newspaper.
AS A BEAVER FAN, I'm careful to make a generalization even w/these tales & crazy foibles. I'd caution ANYONE to make a generalization about ANY Program - till we hear a story like the MIAMI one, w/widespread, program-wide scandalous pattern of activity. The MINUTE one does this - they are subject to reading an embarrassing story about their own school. These are young, impetuous KIDS, after all...no more or LESS stupid than I was at that age...or no more or less apt to pull ignoramus stunts & acts than the general student body (the percentages truly bear this out). In my humble opinion, as always.

Yamoto u can throw last years stats out! New Year New Team. Like Stanford without Luck & the Washington O line man from Washington drafted to Pitt.. still got them over Washington. That team got a flat tire.

THROW STATS OUT..???
As a lifelong statistician by trade - with all due respect....it's not in my nature to 'throw stats out' when it comes to handicapping & analysis. Not in this lifetime, anyway.
Well are they playing the same schedule or do they let Chris Polk back into College? I like the stats after a few games thats all i'm saying.
Thought you might be interested to hear this:The seemingly mundane subject of ‘2012 UW Defense’ was posed to myself once again this morning (in my “regular-again” radio segment on Rival-Radio, NW Weekend Sportdrive Show (NW Regional Clear-Channel Show, originating from Boise, Idaho) “How Good can the Dawgs Defense expect to improve w/Justin Wilcox stepping in as UW DC this year?” (I’d be quick to point out, I have no issue w/UW in general)Now having had some time to think about and look over the numbers even more, I was forced to keep with what I said in here, and echo these sentiments on the radio this morning: (Having compiled the detailed numbers in the thread below),
It remains hard to fathom UW Defensive Unit getting much better w/the personell on hand at Mott Lake. UW Defense improving - even a small amount - doesn't seem realistic.SAME question was asked of YOUR GUY, “Softy” Mahler, The next hour.
Softy (hesitantly) agreed. SOFTY:
To review the UW Defensive numbers from last year, UW allowed 453 yards per game worse than the previous school-worst of 451 in 2008; and 36 points per game and 467 points overall, the most in school history, but not quite as bad on average as the 2008 team, which allowed 463 points in just 12 games. So, allowing 60 yards less a game would beyou'll see what a math whiz I am here393 yards per game, or just slightly more thanHuskies allowed in either 2009 (389.5) and 2010 (384.8).That's a number that last year would also have put them in the top in the Pac-12 in terms of total defense, SC was fourth at 374.75 per game and Oregon fifth at 390.07 (Cal was first at 332.93 ). So it would be a quick return to being regarded as at least a respectable defenseIt doesn't seem this jump that can be made w/the personel on hand, regardless of who the DC is up here.A touchdown less a game?To again put those amazing math skills on display, would result in an average of 28 points a game. That would be similar to what UW allowed in 2009 (26.7) and 2010 (29.31). Even with changes in coaches and schemes, that, too, seems less than realistic given a little less experience overall.Again - I’m just sayin’
OKAY YOU LIKE STATS FROM YESTER YEARS NOT LOOKING FOR A NEW SHINNING STAR IN THE ROUGH. lIKE I SAID IF U LIKE UR STATS SO MUCH U WOULD HAVE STANFORD #1 RIGHT? IF U TOOK STATS FROM LAST YEAR BUT THATS LAST YEAR WHO KNOWS WHO S WHO THIS YEAR. WHO'S THE NEXT Herschel Junior Walker OR REGGIE BUSH THAT SAID YES UW POSSIBLE COULD BE #1 BUT NOT LIKELY. WHAT DID THE COACH OF WSU SAY? " I WANT OREGON'! BRUSING IN THE PAC-12 THIS YEAR.. BY THE WAY U GIVE NO RESPECT TO SEAHAWK STADIUM AS THE LOUDEST! I WENT TO WSU VS OKLAHOMA STATE A FEW YEARS BACK & TAILGATING WAS ON LIKE DONKEY KONG. I COULDN'T TAKE A STEP WITHOUT KICKING A KEG CUP CASCADING INTO ANOTHER. IT WAS WALKING THROUGH LETS SAY A BEEHIVE. ALL IN ALL USC SHOULD WIN PAC-12 BUT DON'T SHORT CHANGE THE DAWGS. HOW MANY CHEESEBURGERS HAVE THE O LINE D LINE EATEN SO FAR THIS SUMMER? I DON'T KNOW BUT I BET A LOT:} DOES UW BACK DOWN FROM A CHALLENGE ON SCHEDULING? i SAY A BUNCH OF CHUMPS OREGON & USC ARE. They PLAY NO ONE! USC PLAYS WHAT NOTRE DAME THATs IT. UW PLAYS REAL TEAMS EVERY YEAR LIKE NEBRASKA LSU WE GET BEAT BUT WE STILL PLAY NOT LIKE OREGON VS BOISE STATE OR USC VS NOTRE DAME ON THERE DOWN SIDE YEARS.
JUST TO KID AROUND ARE U GETTING TO MUCH SMOKE inhalation FROM FIRES AROUND THERE or Col.? i WANT AN UPDATE AFTER THE SEASON BEGINS ON STATS FROM THIS YEAR & LAST YEAR TO SEE WHAT INFO YOUR TALKING ABOUT THAT IS RELEVANT
Thanks for the comments, Steve. FYI, it's Montlake.
I bleed purple and gold, but...well, let's just say that if the offense performs to its capability (may be a big "if" given O-line depth issues), we're going to be betting into some pretty astronomical totals this year. The Dawgs' D has got me scared shitless.
Dang it..Montlake - been there a zillion times, you;d think I'd get it right
All I'm saying is even a U-Dub HOMER like Softy admits that the Dawgs Defense was utterly ineffective in 2011, to the extent they set school record(s) for futility...& we don't see many tangible reasons to expect improvement in 2012.
Very difficult to compile a great number of Wins w/
Regardless of the greatness of who is under center or how many coaching changes are implemented.
Been wrong plenty of times before...
Montlake was last year people. It's now CenturyLink Field 800 Occidental Avenue South Seattle, WA 98134. Hope you can find the way. Steve Sarkisian said the secondary was improved but maybe i'll listen to some writer who knows best? Who ever has Stanford as #2 in the North is still on LSD left around from the 60's. Yes those short corners where a big problem last year but we will find out how much they grew. North UW#2! I see Bowl game!
What Pac-12 team will have the best stadium in the Fall of 2013? Who is going to be the best QB's this year in the PAC? "What offseason? The Huskies' junior quarterback isn't resting on his record-setting 2011. He just got back from getting better and wiser with Peyton and Eli Manning at their passing camp in Louisiana". Therewas other QB's there like USC Barkley but Price will shine this year..this taken offuw page here about QB. "Price set UW records for touchdown passes, season completion percentage (66.9 percent) and pass efficiency (161.09) in 2011. He set a national major-college postseason record by rushing and passing for seven combined touchdowns in the last game he's played, December's Alamo Bowl. And now he is being mentioned by some as a Heisman Trophy candidate for 2012."
