  • Well, Bo is headed to Miami to interview for the Hurricane head coaching job.  Sources from Lincoln say the AD Department has given the Canes permission to talk to Pelini today about their vacancy at head coach.

    My reaction:  WTF???

He is from Ohio and now gets to coach in his conference he grew up in.  While I am not a huge fan of Bo's in terms of his demeanor overall, he has turned NU around and has 2 of the Best QB's in the USA coming on board, top 3 running back out of Texas.  Apparently sick of the scrutiny in LIncoln in recent weeks I guess, he has 2 years remaining on his contract.....

Anyway I know no more than that....

  • From Lincoln Journal Star this morning:

Pelini said he didn't seek such permission from anyone.

"Among the coaches who reportedly have spoken to Miami about the job are Mississippi State's Dan Mullen, Connecticut's Randy Edsall and Texas Tech's Tommy Tuberville.

Pelini has a relationship with Hocutt that dates to 2004, when Hocutt was an associate athletic director at Oklahoma and Pelini was the Sooners' co-defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach. In addition, Hocutt played linebacker at Kansas State when Carl Pelini was a graduate assistant at the school in the early 1990s.

Pelini's NU teams have gone 9-4, 10-4 and 10-3. He's regarded as one of the nation's brightest defensive minds.

Nebraska is set to play Washington in the Dec. 30 Holiday Bowl. "

  • AD Tom Osborne said in a statement he has not given Miami permission, that was last night at 5 PM..apparently things have changed since that statement from what I hear, and now all over ESPN...

  • Breaking News:  Mark Mangino, ex Kansas Coach was seen in Lincoln Airport (hard to miss), and got in a University car and headed to campus.

My sources tell me Shawn Watson is going to be out as Off. Coordinator (no surprise there) and they are looking at Tim Beck and or Mangino to fill the role, and for ex Husker QB Scott Frost (currently at Oregon as assistant) to step in and take the QB coaching job.

All this craziness going on while rumors swirl that Pelini is open to Miami making a pitch.  Perhaps if the coaching carosel is in play, Bo gets in some new blood to open up the offense, since he and borther Carl have the defense covered, all might settle down.

  • Oh yeah..Magino and Pelini are friends, both coached under Bob Stoops at OU, and both are good friends with Stoops.  Makes sense to me...Magino former OC at Oklahoma before taking KU job and then ran out of town on a railcar by now fired Kansas AD Perkins....a witch hunt deal for Magino.

  •  Rumor mill going hard! I would love to have Mangino as OC and Frost as qb coach.  Watson's resume isn't very impressive in big games and his red zone numbers are terrible as well.

  • Is this inside source as good as your inside source for Taylor Martinez quitting? I hate how just because people say they have an inside source, they print whatever they want.

If you're wrong, I hope you come out and say you were wrong. Don't just blame your source either. If you print what your source says and back it, you are responsible as well.

I don't think there is much of a chance Bo Pelini leaves. It contradicts what you later report. Why would coaches be flying into Lincoln to be an offensive coordinator for a coach who won't be there?
