176 BYU -1.5 (-110) BetUS vs 175 WashingtonAnalysis: Steve Sarkisian left USC (he was an assistant coach) to take over a struggling Washington program prior to the 2009 season. The Huskies were 0-12 in 2008 but the first-year head coach fashioned a 5-7 year, upsetting USC, Arizona and California. While optimism is running high in Seattle that the Huskies could return to the postseason for the first time since '02, one can't ignore the fact that Washington was 0-5 on the road in 2009, extending the school's road losing streak to 12 straight, the longest active one in CFB. QB Jake Locker passed up the NFL for his senior season (he's expected by many to be next April's first QB taken) and many rate Locker as a legitimate Heisman contender in 2010. He threw for 2,800 yards and 21 TDs (11 INTs) last year while adding 388 yards rushing with seven more TDs. He's got a trio of WRs returning, led by Jermaine Kearse (50 catches / 17.3 YPC / 8 TDs). Locker also can utilize the skills of sophomore RB Polk, off a freshman season in which he ran for 1,113 yards, becoming the first freshman to run for a 1,000 yards at Washington. The Huskies defense improved last year from allowing 38.6 PPG to 26.7 but that hardly makes this unit "first class!" Many believe that Washington is catching BYU at the right time, as the Cougars are searching to replace QB Max Hall, who led BYU to a 32-7 record the last three years while throwing for over 11,000 yards with 94 TDs. Head coach Bronco Mendenhall decided that no one player was worthy of the starting job and instead announced a two-QB rotation of junior Riley Nelson and freshman Jake Heaps. I've never been a big fan of QB rotations but BYU knows its passing game. There is little doubt that the Cougars are rebuilding in 2010 but they have always been dangerous at home, as evidenced by the school's 22-2 SU home record the last four seasons. Take BYU.
