Returning Starters 17 (10 Offense/7 Defense)/47 lettermen/0 NFL Draftee
Last Year: Offense 33.2 ppg ranked #38/Defense 39 ppg ranked #119
A good and sometimes explosive offense was doomed with a horrendous
defense that was ranked somewhere in the neighborhood of New Mexico St.
Finally had enough, head coach Fedora decided to do something about it.
Fedora overhauled his entire defensive staff, bringing in Gene Chizik, a
former Auburn head coach and a great defensive mind, to be his DC. A new DL,
new linebackers, and new defensive backs coaches. They have plenty of talents
to work with. The disintegrated defense welcomes back almost every lineman
and defensive back. LB suffered some major losses but several veterans return.
Improvement is almost guaranteed just how far can coach Chizik take them
will make or burst the Heels this year. As a team, the Heels were maddeningly
inconsistent. It could be blamed on a young QB in his first year as full time starter.
Heels' QB, Marquise Williams one of the best dual threat QBs in the nation with
3000+ passing yards and almost 800 rushing yards, is returning for his senior year.
This is the year (in a long time) for the Heels to truly breakthrough. The Offense
with every running backs, last year's top four WRs, are all back this year. On
top of that all five OL starters return.
A little more consistency and discipline the Heels will be 8-4 this year or with
few lucky breaks could win its Coastal division.
