Let me first admit that I had a BIG bet on Utes + 14. Having said that it was mad as hell when Lane ran 2 plays after recovering the on side kick when 1 kneel down wins the game. If you don't think that LK tries to cover spreads when he has game won then you should be watching curling. I guarantee that before his coaching days are done he will be investigated in some point shaving or point covering scandal. It's obscene that he would risk the health of his players in 2 meaningless plays when he could have taken 1 knee. Last year in his game against the Utes, he was ecstatic when the block field goal return for TD was counted because it meant that the trojans covered even though USC had already won. LK is bad for college sports. Period!!!

It's clear that Kiffin looks to cover the spread. It's the case with the majority of coaches. Team supporters and boosters bet and have a heavy hand in the hiring and firing of coaches. If you ignore the pointspread you could very well end up out of a job. You have to know which coaches go out of their way to cover spreads, it's easy to tell if you watch enough games.

I completely agree with Bryan and know first hand there are coaches like that, and he is right about booster club. Letme first tell you why. Majority of Vegas sports casinos had USC-14 and the obvious bought down to -13.5 exactly, and then the unthinkable happens in the 4th qtr...
As USC takes a 14 pt lead in the 4th, the defense let us on that last drive with 4:49 to go in the game and UTah was on own 31...On 4th and 6, the punt team goes out to punt and flag, running into the punter 5 yards, makes it 4th and 1- ok so UTAH goes for it at midfield, to no surprise the 1st down is made. 2nd and 10 on 50 yard line, defense player gets personal flag 15 yard penalty. We have a 1st and 10 from USC 35 utah ball..After going to 3rd and 10 an incomplete pass, brings up actually 4th and 12, UTAH last chance to get a first or incomplete pass or get sacked whatever. Mistified....the back QB fires a needle through 3 defenders who may i add let this strike go through to a Utah receiver to get 1st and goal utah ball...TD Run UTAH with :38 seconds to go. 38-28, onside kick fails, then personal foul UTAH. USC gets ball on UTAH 30...38 seconds...ONE USC KNEEEL DOWN RIGHT??? WRONG!!!! Lane ACTSa like he has no clue of the spread and RUNS 2 Running plays in 38 seconds, HOPING To break a tackle and possible score OR ATLEAST make it look like he's still trying.....BULLSHIT Lane- you know very well what you're doing.....Silas Redd was NOT cheap was he????
I bitch because I had USC -10 in a parlay buying down pts, as Rams easily covered, I was gold usc up by 14 with 5 minutes to go and I shoulda known what Lane would do. That is why Lane Kiffin will always be known as an ass, and will NEVER EVER be an NFL coach again, I gaurentee you that!

Never could get the whole picture of why everyone thinks he is the cats meow.....Sucked in Oakland, ran Tennessee into the ground and left that program on the midnight special out of town....and showed everyone so far this year he cannot prepare a team...I could give a shit less if he likes to cover spreads...hard to cover big numbers when you do not know how to coach. They should have dominated that team last night and had 48 points with ease. No knock on Utah they played hard and were coached up, but a second string QB and no running game...come on man!

I had Utah but what I saw were some 2nd string players who may or may not ever get to play again. What about on onside kick down by 10 with like 30 seconds remaining.
Bryan makes a good point. You have to know which ones do it. I remember talking about this subject last year when USC played Colorado. There is no doubt that job security comes from making boosters happy :)
