Tony,

FASCINATED by Southern Mississippi comments & Eagles in general
Agree that you're on to something here w/So Miss
Despite New HC replacing an underrated/underappreciated HC Fedora
(As we know, Fedora moved on to NC, after 0.642 Win% (29-23 ATS) 4 Yrs in Hattiesburg)

w/NEB Opening at -17 vs. SO MISS, at 12-2 in 2011
Line up to NEBRASKA -20 many places (Bookmaker, et al)

VEGAS must be weighing certain So Miss variables very heavy
(w/many folks jumping after it)

1.  1st-Timer', New HC Johnson (Former DC, Defensive Guru)
2.  New Untested, QB Campbell (ZERO Snaps in 2011)
(Steele Unit Rating has SO MISS Tied w/UAB for weakest 'QB-UNIT' in C-USA)

Speaking of 1st Time HC's....Crunched ATS numbers a few years back
For new First-Timer HC's playing initial Game 1 on road v ranked opponents

Collective ATS was SUB .200 (.178), going from 2009 back to 1993

Instead, VEGAS seems to be essentially de-valuing (&/or loves Huskers)

1.  SO MISS Stellar Line Strength(s)
BOTH So Miss DL & OL arguably finest, strongest UNITS among all 'Non AQ' Programs
Strong O-LINE & D-LINE's (obviously)
Tend to make NEW HC & (OL particularly) new QB's transitions a helluvalot smoother

2.  SO MISS Rush Attack
No one seems to be talking about So Miss strong running game
SO MISS Jr Hardy listed as New Starter & of course, he's not NEW to Eagle Backfield
Hardy lost all of 2011 w/Injury; yet he's one strong back (6-0 | 221)
Hardy was awfully good in All-Conf Redshirt Fr Season

3.  SO MISS Special Teams
So Miss S-Teams look as good as EVER, as always, as usual...
Especially USM Coverage Teams & Punt Return Home-Run Threat (Lamply)

&/or Vegas Really Loves Huskers, at the same time

Like this So Miss Team a lot also
They still many struggle to string drives together vs. stout Run Defenses

Can't wait to find out

ictyo -

before saying the Huskers have done well in Big Games you might want to check Bo Pellini's record against teams ranked in the top 10....those my friend are big games...not a medicore Mich. State team in the regular season.  They lost their ass at Virginia Tech and gave the game away in the final 2 minutes, lost 2 Big 12 championships to OU and Texas under his guideance.....

Washington is NOT a big game by any means and when we got them in a bowl game they kicked the shit out of us..I know because I went to it.  Northwestern, Michigan, Wisconsin all killed NU last year....we were not even in those games..Northwestern beat us with a second string QB IN LINCOLN...again I know because I was there.........!!!  Did you see South Carolina beat the tar out of us in a bowl game???  Again, those are big games....we got our ass handed to us.

No one on the planet likes to be down on the Huskers more than me...they are MY team....but laying 20 in season opener with a team who won a conference title last year is allot to ask of a middle of the pack 4 loss team from last year....in Lincoln or not...my 2 cents...

Nebraska a 4 loss team again this year..mark my words...

Tony, like you I have season tickets and travel to the big away games each year. So I have seen first hand how poorly Bo's teams have played. I was one of the few in my group that was adamant about not hiring a first time head coach to take over after Billy C. I caught a ton of flack initially but the fan base in general is starting to come around.

What bothers me more than only winning about 10% of his big games, is that under his watch he always seems to get beat or almost get beat(South Dakota St.), teams they should be dominating especially at home! I agree with around 4 losses, 3 regular season and another bowl loss. Hope we are wrong though.

I look forward to talking NU football with you throughout the year!

New coach Jim Mora is already lowering the expectations of the fans in case something goes wrong.  He said yesterday,  "We will try to win as fast as we can, but it does take time."  His starting QB (Brett Hundley) will be a kid who hasn't played in a game in over a year - and THAT was in high school!!  Mora has tons of pro experience but doesn't want to overwhelm the kid with 15-20 preprogrammed plays.  He says, "We are just going to throw him out there and let him roll.  We have a lot of confidence in Brett."  Hundley comes highly regarded, but this is a big step up from high school.  Something tells me he will try to do too much to prove himself and we may be seeing the more experienced Kevin Prince or Richard Brehaut in the mix before long...  Can't wait for kickoff !!

You can now get Nebraska at -5.  A great deal IMO.  UCLA beat Rice last week and looked good, but Nebraska's Martinez will give them fits tomorrow in the Rose Bowl. Donkey's best bet of the day...Nebraska -5  (5Dimes)

Obviously we will see tommorrow, but the husker passing game looks promising.

In my mind it has never been about martinez beeing able to throw the ball.

Last year nobody could catch it!

His game from day 1 has been speed.
