The BYU-Utah Holy War Game is one of two intriguing games out west although salt Lake City is still technically on Mountain Time. I was at the Las Vegas Bowl when Utah jumped out to a 35-0 lead over the Cougars in the first half after BYU turned the ball over on it's first five possessions, something I had never witnessed. BYU never quit and shut out the Utes from there and clawed back, only to fall short 35-28. BYU has a new Coaching staff with 8 former Cougar players on it, including, Ty Detmer at Offensive Coordinator and new Head Coach Kalani Sitake. Sitake played fullback for LaVell Edwards from 1997-2000. He was a grad-assistant coach at BYU in 2004 but spent 9 years on the staff at Utah for HC Kyle Wittingham, also a graduate of BYU. This game has so many angles to it but for those who do not know this rivalry, make NO MISTAKE about it- this will be the HARDEST HITTING game of the day!
Meanwhile, Wazzu has a late date on the smurf turf in Boise State against a Bronco team who destroyed UL Lafayette team that was out of the game on it's own field by the end of the first quarter. Has HC Bryan Harsin built this team back to prominence? With Brett Rypien at the helm, the future is bright. For the Cougs, it's time to put up or shut up after another early fall to another FCS foe from the Big Sky. That's nice that QB Luke Falk can throw for a gazillion yards but can Wazzu stop even Girl's High from scoring continuously? We'll find out later today- If you missed my radio Show this week, HC Kenny Sanchez of Number One High School team in the Country, Kenny Sanchez joined me Wednesday night. He talked about the Gaels winning streak and their date last night on the Gridiron with number 3 St. John Bosco Prep, the former home of UCLA gunslinger, Josh Rosen. The Braves were trying to avenge a loss from two years ago when Rosen was at the helm. In that game Gorman led by 20 plus but had to hold on for a narrow victory.
Last night st. John Bosco built a 20-7 lead but Bishop Gorman pushed it's winning streak to 42 straight with 4 unanswered TD's in the 35-20 victory. Many second guessed the coaching move from Tony Sanchez to little brother Kenny after Tony accepted the UNLV job. Nepotism paid off here so far as Kenny upped his record to 18-0. You can hear his comments on SportsXradio this Wednesday night at 7:10 PM PST...on 50,000 WATT AM 720 KDWN which is also a FREE APP in Google Play or I-Tunes stores.
