We have 2 Big 10 teams and 2 Big 12 teams at the top, then a Pac 12 and ACC team respectively. Highest SEC team is currently 7th.
Well of course since those conferences don't play anyone, they are more likely to be unscathed and remain at the top. The SEC is tough this year and scheduled good cross conference top dogs i.e. Georgia vs Alabama rather than the bottom of the barrel Vandy, KY, Ark like.
I can't help but wonder if the SEC and Pac 12 best teams have two losses and the Big 12 and Big 10 second place teams have one loss, would they get in leaving out these two so called top conferences out.
Suppose:
1. OSU 12-0.... go 2-0 vs top 25
2. TCU 12-0.... go 3-0 vs top 25
3. Mich St 11-1.... go 2-1 vs top 25
4. Baylor 11-1.... go 2-1 vs top 25
5 Clemson 11-1.... go 1-1 vs top 25
6. Alabama 10-2.... go 3-2 vs top 25 and also unranked Aub and Miss St way better than OSU's PSU and Ind equivalent
7. Utah 10-2.... go 3-2 vs top 25.
Bama and Utah beat Wiscy and Oregon respectively while OSU beat VT and TCU beat Minny. 14 pt favs dont count as tough non conf games.
Could this really be how this top 4 pans out? I think an 8 team playoff needs to happen. Five conference champs and 3 at large bids. No matter if they are from the same conference or not. No rule that 2 teams from same conference should exist. Like a few years ago. Ala, Aub, LSU and 5 other conf teams would have been the top 8 field even though 3 were in the same division in the top 4. So what? We need the best 8 teams including the 5 conf champions.
