SEMO AT E. KENTUCKY -13
It just doesn't get any better than this spot. SEMO started the year with a new head coach and staff. They have done a great job of turning the program around and headed in the right direction. When this team is healthy the starters can play with any team in the OVC. However coach Tuke said at the beginning of the season that this team just doesn't have much depth. They have the bodies but after you go so far in the rotation the talent drop off is drastic. During the first 6 games of the schedule SEMO had a few injuries and could cover them up. During that time they upset two ranked teams including the 3 ranked team in the country. However, during the last two games SEMO has been a walking Mash unit and it showed on the field. Hit especially hard have been the offensive and defensive lines and the linebackers. There was a time when all of the starting defensive linemen and 5 of the top 8 linebackers were out. It really caught up with them last week as EIU won at SEMO 52-13. SEMO has been a great 4th quarter team all year but with the lack of depth last week they were shut out the second half 28-0. SEMO still has an OUTSTANDING punter and field goal kicker and this team will still fight with everything they have right down to the end but they just don't have enough talented bodies to compete with the good teams for four quarter now.
What set's this game up so well is last week E. Kentucky got a rude awakening. They went into Tenn. Tech. undefeated and ranked 12th in the country. They were coasting going into the fourth quarter with a 31-10 lead. Then the roof caved in. They got the ball 6 times in the forth quarter and turned the ball over 4 of those 6 possessions. Tech went on to out score them 29-0 in the 4th to win 39-31. I'm sure this was a tough week of practice in Richmond, Ky. Any chance EKU had of overlooking SEMO is now gone. If all of that wasn't enough it is also homecoming. Look for the Colonels to get back on the winning path as they take out last weeks frustrations on SEMO. EKU in a rout.
