Last week, the good news was having a 10 and a 20 point dog that won outright. The bad news was that the other 3 plays lost, and we ended up down the vig of $40. That puts my season number at $-210.
Friday:
Fresno State -3 (200) It took this team a couple weeks, but they look like they're putting things together. They looked completely lost the first 3 games, but I liked what I saw from them last week as they settled back into a game against their own level of competition. I think they should win this game by 2 scores.
Saturday
Alabama -6.5 (500) (Max Bet) This is my first Max of the year. I've had a couple 4's (1-1), but to this point, there hasn't been a game on the schedule I've liked this month. Everyone fell in love with this Ole Miss team watching them against Boise and Vandy. But, this game is a different animal. In the last 100 years, Ole Miss has beaten Alabama 2 times when they weren't starting a Manning at QB. The last time Ole Miss kept this game within a TD was 2008, year 2 for Saban. This game is Blake Simms' first true road start, but he's not some wide-eyed freshman. He's a redshirt senior. He's experienced these SEC stadiums several times over. Bama has too many weapons on offense and too much talent on defense. This game is a complete mismatch. Bama by 21+.
Virginia Tech -2 (300) UNC is bad. Fedora is a bad coach. Southern Miss was solid in spite of him, not because of. And he jumped ship right as his stud QB left for the NFL (Davis, Rams current starter). Wk 1, Liberty took a 22-21 lead w 9 min left in the 3rd, and then proceeded to give UNC 5 turnovers in what ended up as a lopsided final score. SDSU had multiple opportunities to beat them wk 2 and choked the game away (1st and goal @ the 3, down by 4, 1 min to go, INT in end zone). ECU dropped 70 on them. Clemson dropped 50 w a QB making his 1st start. While VT hasn't looked great, they did beat OSU, and played ECU much, much closer than UNC did.
Baylor -15 (200) Baylor turns this into a track meet. Texas couldn't move the ball against Kansas. Texas' scoring drives vs KU were 18, 13, 4 and 27 yards, all set up by turnovers. They won't have much more success here. And they won't get 4 INT's from Petty. Baylor rolls.
Kansas +26 (200) An ugly dog, no doubt. But, reports from Laurence, KS are that with the firing of Weis, the energy is up. The assistant that was promoted has livened up the atmosphere. People are flying around the practice field, and they're really excited for the "new" Kansas football. I think this first game they come out extra motivated and are able to do enough to stay within this number. The new coach wants to make an impression, and I think they pull out all the stops to keep this game close.
