On the MLB, we are coming from a 5-3-1 day and I believe we will continue to turn things around today and start setting the pace for a great MLB season! On the other hand, we are coming from a 1-2 night on the WNBA.

08/19 WNBA CARD

WNBA - 601 Chicago Sky @ 602 Washington Mystics

Projected line: Chicago by 8 points

I watched Chicago's game last Friday against Atlanta and they played well, even though they had problems with the turnovers due to the pressure coming from Atlanta's defense. Fowles also had problems on her matchup against De Souza and finished with 3-5 FG for 13 points. On the other side, Washington is coming from two very clear road losses in Indiana and Minnesota, where it was clear that the Mystics just can't seem to compete against good teams, especially due to their poor offense.

Chicago with Prince back is now an improved offensive team and so I expect them to have a good offensive game today against the lowly defense of the Mystics. On the other side, Washington keeps struggling on offense and the offensive rates on their last six games (78.4, 99.1, 99.8, 98.1, 88.0 and 88.6) show exactly that. Now against a good defensive team like Chicago (#2 in defensive rates in the league), I expect the Mystics to struggle a lot on this contest. Therefore, I believe Chicago is going to have an easy win today and so, I'll take them in here.

WNBA - 605 Tulsa Shock @ 606 Minnesota Lynx

Projected line: 173 points

Minnesota is 100% healthy for this contest and with their overall quality helped by a great rostr, they will completely squad the lowly Shock on this contest. Their bench is capable of outscoring Tulsa's starting lineup and with their fast paced basketball, they are deadly on fast breaks where they score 15.45 fast break points per game, the best mark in the league. Looking at the fact that Tulsa is the 2nd worst team in allowing fast break points with 12.84 points per game, I expect Minnesota to have another huge offensive game against the lowly Shock like they had in the first two games against them this season where they scored 107 and 89 points.

On the other hand, Tulsa has also improved on offense lately and after a start of the season where it was rare to see them getting more than 100 offensive rates in a game, in their last 7 games, they managed to have more than 100 off rates in 5 occasions. Also with the blowout Minnesota will give them today, the Lynx will eventually relax on defense and allow Tulsa to score a decent number of points on this contest as well. I expect a very fast paced game in here full of offense and therefore, I'll be taking the Over in here.

MLB - 907 Arizona Diamondbacks @ 908 Houston Astros

(Starting Pitchers: I. Kennedy vs A. Galarraga)

Arizona will try to sweep the series today and for that, they will start Kennedy, who is coming from a loss against the Cardinals, where he allowed five runs (three earned) in six innings. The truth is that Kennedy has been struggling and his FIP on his last four starts shows exactly that: 7.26, 9.60, 6.43 and 6.89! But looking at the SP Houston will start today, even if Kennedy starts struggling big time on this contest, the Dbacks will be just fine.

I'm saying that because Houston is starting Galarraga today, who is coming from allowing five runs and seven hits in 5IP against the Cubs last Monday. Galarraga has been a complete disaster since his comeback and he is now posting a 5.75 ERA and a 1.87 WHIP in four starts, with his 7.37 FIP showing that there's little chance to believe Galarraga will start bouncing back soon. The Dbacks offense woke up last night and with them having their confidence regained, Galarraga is going to be pounded today.

Galarraga gave up five runs on seven hits over five innings against the Cubs in a losing effort Monday night. There's not much here to try and profit from at this point. Galarraga now has a 5.75 ERA and 1.87 WHIP over four starts with the Astros and the underlying metrics suggest that there's little in the way of positive correction on the horizon.

I expect both SP to have problems today, but with Galarraga surely having more problems than Kennedy, as he is pitching worse than today's Dbacks' SP, besides Arizona having a better hitting than Houston. Therefore, I expect an easy win for Arizona today, therefore I'll be taking Arizona on the Runline in here.
