Why we like the Pirates on Monday at +106...here we have one of the better teams in the league when playing at home and we are getting plus money with them tonight after getting a huge win in Cincinnati. This is a Pirates team that just finished up a 10 game road trip where they went 6-4 and now get to come home where they can make up some ground on the Reds. The Diamondbacks on the other hand, are half way through their 10 game road trip and are coming off of two losses in Philly. This game really comes down to which lefty will blink first. The Diamondbacks will be pitching Wade Miley who has been on a roll this season and will get love from the public. When we look at a young pitcher like Miley, you have to take into consideration that he has never thrown this many innings in his life. We look at his past few starts and notice that he has thrown 105 pitches or more in three straight outings leading up to his most recent start of 110 pitches. There have been two starts this season that Miley has thrown 110 pitches or more and both following starts resulted in 6 innings or less while combining for 12 runs on 16 hits, and 3 HRs through those 9 innings of work. Well, Mileys last start was 110 pitches and he has never pitched after three straight starts of 105 pitches or more. The Pirates will be pitching Erik Bedard who we like at home with his 2.72 era where he has allowed just 1 HR all year. Bedards last home start came on July 23rd against the Cubs where he allowed 1 run through 7 innings on 2 hits, 2 BBs and 11 K's. Bedard faced the DBacks once this year IN Arizona where he allowed 2 runs through 5 innings on 3 hits and 1 HR. Those numbers should play well for him tonight at home. Offensively, the Pirates have been swinging it better of late as they are averaging 4.6 rpg and a .278 average over their last 7 games while the DBacks have averaged 4.0 rpg and a .229 average. From a bullpen standpoint, the Diamondbacks come in with a 2.66 road era and 9 blown saves while the Pirates have a 2.06 at home with 3 blown saves. We will play on the Pirates at +106.
