I think Verlander's postgame comments told the story of his performance.....He said he normally wouldn't throw 100mph fastballs in the 1st inning (normally throws 90mph balls on the corners then throws 100mph inside later on in the game..etc). He said he did it for the fans only, not trying to strike them out.
