I had a baseball thread up earlier this year and we talked about a mistake a lot of people make when handicapping baseball. Probably the Biggest is "STATS" and how to look and see if they are relevant or in some cases just flat out misleading. The fact is, one must do more than just take something as Gospel, and Look Deeper into what is given..
A Case in point is the Pitcher for the LA Dodgers tonight. Ted Lilly. Lilly has an ERA throwing at Coors Field of 4.57. That is not so spiffy by most standards. However, this is COORS FIELD and that ERA is not as bad as one might think. Plus let's look deeper. Lilly has thrown 5 Times at this Park. One game he allowed 7 Earned Runs Over 4 Innings. That happened in 2010 on August 29th. Does anyone know what happens at COORS FIELD in August? Raise your Hand!!
The other 4 times he has thrown at Coors Field he has allowed 7 Runs in 19.2 Innings. That's a right smart ERA of around 3.30 which is spectacular at this venue. 2 of those games he allowed just 1 run, and another just 2 runs. He also has 70 career K's over 68 innings verses Colorado and an overall ERA of 3.84. So is Ted Lilly scared to Pitch at Coors Field on May 1st? I don't think so...
Looking Deeper into the Stats given can offer more BETTER info on what is really the case. There are a number of these types of stats daily during the season that need to be researched. If you do, it will pay off, I promise..

9 games at Coors from 8/15 until end of month last year. 8 of 9 had 10 or more runs and 1 had 8. Most had many more than 10 runs. The Ball Flies late August in Colorado cmmacdon...
