Today as I scanned the listings as is often the case one of them sparked a good, special memory. It was on this date back in 1978 that Willie McCovey of the Giants slammed his 500th career homer. Big stretch was a helluva ball player and is usually overlooked when people talk about the great sluggers. As a kid, like many of you I am sure, it was a big deal to me when dad took me to the ball games. We lived about 150 miles from Busch stadium so we could not go as often as we liked. But we went a lot, a whole lot. Like many kids I always wanted to get there early enough to watch batting practice. That is where McCovey comes in. The Cards were playing the Giants and I was watching him take his cuts in BP. The guy hit the longest ball I ever personally witnessed in the old stadium. Well into the upper deck in straight away center. It was freaking majestic. Only two guys I ever saw come close to that with my own eyes were Nate Colbert of the Padres and Richie Allen one season when he was with the Cardinals. Years later at Royals stadium with my daughter we were watching Bo Jackson and he launched a similar shot. Good memories.
Okay, a free winner. Today I suggest a small play on the Orioles over the Mariners. The Orioles are hitting the hell out of the ball and Seattle is catching them at a lousy time. If only Baltimore had a better starting rotation I could see them going to the series. I say they keep it rolling tonight in the pacific northwest.
On the business side I passed yesterday on any featured release. If I do not see one, I simply wait. You have to have the patience sometimes of a bird watching a worm hole guys. I do have a big Triple in play tonight. The last one came tuesday with the Rangers and it was an easy winner with the Rangers over the Yankees in my 500th career Triple Star winner. Long term the results speak for themselves. They are up 290 units. Over the last two months we have been hitting them at a documented 70% clip. Also, the company is offering a special that will provide all the releases through the all star break. Mainly the important thing is it would include any triples or rabid dogs. Those are the releases I urge folks to key on. Anyway, I do wish everyone the best of luck tonight and on through the holiday weekend. 4th of july is one of my favorite holidays. Have a great time and stay safe. Good luck guys.
