Verlander has given up less than 3ER in only 3 road starts this season while posting a 4.53ERA away from home.  The Tigers themselves have scored 3 runs or fewer in 25 of their last 47 ballgames.  Span (.450), Mauer (.378), and Kubel (.360) are a combined 32-for-82 (.390) v Verlander.  Baker has a 3.86ERA at home and an overall 3.02ERA in his last 5 starts w 33SO along the way.  Verlander and Baker have almost identical xFIPs (4.04 and 4.03, respectively) but Baker has a somewhat "lucky" .324BABIP, letting us know that he is the more likely to improve moving forward.  Here's the straightforward part: Minnesota has the 2nd best home record in the AL and 4th best in MLB.  Detroit has the 3rd worst road record in the AL and 5th worst in MLB.  More to the point, the Twins have won 13 of 15 at Target while the Tigers have lost 20 of 26 on the road.  I like for those trends to continue tonight at Target.  Let's grab the Twins at a very affordable price.    

Result: I've recommended plays on over 300 ballgames this season.  None were as sloppy and ridiculous as this one.  The Twins led by 4 w 5 outs to go.  The Tigers tied them up in the 8th.  The Twins led again by 1 in the 9th.  The Tigers tied it up.  The Tigers went up by 1 in the 11th.  The Twins tied them up in that frame.  Minnesota lost its starting pitcher to injury after 2 innings.  Detroit lost their best hitter, Miguel Cabrera, to injury early, as well.  The Twins scored 3 unearned runs in the 5th.  The Tigers scored 2 unearned runs in the 8th.  The Twins had 15 hits, all of which were singles.  The Tigers had 19 hits, including 5 HRs.  But the main factor in this ballgame cannot even be quantified by a box score.  Seemingly every ground ball, whether fielded by Twins or Tigers infielders was an adventure, perhaps as a function of pregame tarp doing a number on the dirt.  A number of double plays on both sides couldn't be turned because of extra bobbles and bloopers.  In the end, Gerald Laird's solo shot off Friday's previously scheduled starter, Nick Blackburn, doomed us.  Final Detroit Tigers 10 Minnesota Twins 9, 13

Simply put, another ballgame that we had absolutely no business losing, comfortably ahead with a 4 run lead w 5 outs to go.  And yet, we did.  There's simply nothing for me to write beyond that.  With the absolutely screwy results of the last two nights, perhaps it's good that I only like 1 ballgame today, though I happen to love it.  And it's a matinee.

BABIP remains .545 - unbelievable  --- Well said - that game was hard to take I had the Twins as well and also Twins  -1 1/2 +196. This team simply gave the game away in the eighth brutal. You know your in trouble when Blackburn comes in.

Hey Rob, I think we're definitely well past getting high w the highs and low w the lows...the long haul of baseball does that to you....I was more numb after last night's than angry....it's like your body going numb right after a major injury to protect you...sorta like that :)....and good showing by the Warriors in the 2nd half....something to build on!...let's get back at it today...BOL, my friend.

Hookster on a friday nice.  Great call on hawaii hook.  My big brother follwed anthony redd and took a beating on that game taking the trojans.  Lane kiffin is a complte pompous ass for sure.  I hate the f**king U.  Was nothing better watching penn state kicking the shit outta them in the nattie title game in jan of '87 and watching those f**king babies cry and say on 30 30 "we domintaed every offensive category and they got lucky"  bullshit you got your asses beat, 5 picks, way to go vinny.  Best high school football players come out of new jersey year in and year out since I was in high school.  SEC players are not NFL ready either for the most part.  The big ten is where you send your kid if want him to play pro.  They run pro style offenses and they deal with the NFL style weather every year, warm early, cold late.  MIami may not suck, but they will never be as great as they were from 83-91, and because of that they wil percieved as a shitty program.  Gotta go gill, heading up to philly and the game starts in an hour and cant finish up rest of the show.  BOL this weekend.
