Another MLB now question: Why do they allow team to expand rosters to 40 players in Sept.?
Why does MLB do it this? I am not sure the origin of the rule but my guess it was to get prospects some big league time once the minor league season ended.
Should it continue? Yes
How does it effect capping September ? Expanded rosters mean more bodies, which means more flexibility for managers, which means more moves and more strategy. You will see more pinch hitters, pinch runners, defensive replacements, and pitching changes. This should all be accounted for. However, some teams may call up ten players, others may only call up two. So you really need to look into rosters if you think it would be a factor.
